Nice of you to forgive me, but to be fair, you guys have us Blue's Clues. And there can be no greater sin. :)

User:Tajik vandalizes every page I edit

[edit]

Hi,

I just randomly selected your name from the list to ask if you can help me please. Everyday I edit cities of Afghanistan but right away User:Tajik reverts all my hard work claiming everything I add to the articles is POV or nonsense. I have 100% full information on entire Afghanistan and everything I add is also sourced. This User:Tajik has a serious problem with me over ethnic issues. For example: I added at the end of Herat article that the city is in control of the new Afghan government along with NATO forces being there assissting the government. However, User:Tajik claims this is nonsense and reverted the page. I rather not revert pages but settle the dispute in a nice manner on the talk page...something he does not responds to. I tried this on Kandahar talk page but did not get any responses from User:Tajik. I don't know what to do with this User:Tajik. It is not just one page he reverts but every page I visit. The reason for this is that his ethnics are from Tajiks and I am Pashtun. He does not trust western sources but relies only on Iranian sources. At one time he reverted 3 times in a row and when I reported him to another Administer {William M. Connolley), no action was taken against him. I would appreciate it if you could help me stop User:Tajik from vandalizing my edits. Thank You! NisarKand 12:12, November 5, 2006

My band does have free downloadable and streaming tracks through our website here, if you would like to listen to that while you're savoring your victory. (We just finished playing a show tonight — a guy from Geffen Records was there among others, and we've been accepted by a major booking agency it seems as well.) Enough about me... Excellent. We'll see about that. Our main webpage was hijacked by our former bass player yesterday, who left the band angrily (very long story.) So, I had to re-link you to slow-as-molasses MySpace. Grandmasterka 19:36, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I'm not so sure it was good idea to remove the lock from this page. I guess it follows that vandalism to the page might have died down because of the lock. Now it's removed it's open season. It would have been better to discuss this on the talk page first, at least as a courtesy to the number of editors who've constantly tried to keep this page in a reasonable state. It's a feature of Wikipedia that all edits are visible, and given some of the highly offensive remarks made about her on the article page, it doesn't show Wikipedia in a good light - or put it in a strong position if any legal accusations were made against it. Please don't reply to me - these issues are better discussed on the article talk page. Escaper7 10:29, 5 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations. Here are what pass for words of wisdom from the puppy:
  1. Remember you will always protect the wrong version.
  2. Remember you must always follow the rules, except for when you ignore them. You will always pick the wrong one to do. (See #5)
  3. Remember to assume good faith and not bite. Remember that when you are applying these principles most diligently, you are probably dealing with a troll.
  4. Use the block ability sparingly. Enjoy the insults you receive when you do block.
  5. Remember when you make these errors, someone will be more than happy to point them out to you in dazzling clarity and descriptive terminology.
  6. and finally, Remember to contact me if you ever need assistance, and I will do what I am able.

Hi Youngamerican! Wow, I'm so touched. I hope no one else asks me that question, because I'll start to get big-headed about it :) (I must be doing something right - or maybe not doing enough harm?) After my exams, I'm going to India to see the rellies. But I'll definitely consider running in late January or so. My thoughts have been turning increasingly in that direction - I think most people's do, after a certain period of time. riana_dzasta 20:55, 7 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I would agree that Three Churches Hollow Road is a non-notable subject, but its part of the state highway system. Since we haven't really progressed on that (but the link from the West Virginia State Highways page exists, we should engage in a discussion to see how we should go about doing this. My reasons:

a) We would have literally over one thousand new pages on county routes, some of which have duplicate numbers. b) What about "house" routes? They are technically part of the state route system, so we must make restrictions on what should and should not be added. c) A single page listing the notable secondary routes, such as CR 21, would be more appropriate. Ones like CR 5/4 isn't needed IMO.

Your thoughts on this is greatly appreciated. I plan on bringing this to full light on the project soon. Seicer (talk) (contribs) 03:18, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How to proceed after copyvio tag

[edit]

I thought I would ask my favorite (or closest?) administrator this question. On 10/29 I marked an article for copyvio. Since that time no effort has been made to improve the article or fix the copyvio. As the copied material still exists in the history, I wonder if it is time delete the article. Concerned about deletion of "List of gay slang words and phrases"

[edit]

Hi there,

I'm concerned about the deletion of the "List of gay slang words and phrases". I see that the original suggestion was that this be deleted because CSD G10 ("attack page intended to disparage its subject"). I see the discussion that was had. The page as-was clearly needs work. But I don't think it disparaged GLBT people. I think it merits restoration because

(a) This information is hard to come by (b) Other pages link to it (e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gay_slang) [even though the talk page discusses the difference between that page and the "List of gay slang words and phrases"]

(as retrieved from Google cache at http://64.233.187.104/search?q=cache:YD6JrpjpfP0J:en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_gay_slang_words_and_phrases+pin+boy+slang&hl=en&gl=us&ct=clnk&cd=2&client=firefox-a )

If it can't be restored, perhaps it should be transwikied? Can you point me to information on what happens to deleted articles?

Pardon any etiquette errors--I'm quite new here.

:( Sorry to hear about the camera loss, that is like a big pain in my side (I loathe cameras). I grabbed a quick and dirty shot for the Pink Bridge Incident but it was horrible. That bridge is _hideous_ and will be fading into splotches of pink and dingy white because of the poor quality of ... indoor paint? It's not latex-bonding concrete paint and was cheaply done.

Go see the 12th Street bridge that he had to repaint white. It's a mess of two colours and one can see how this pink bridge will look real soon. Seicer (talk) (contribs) 04:14, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why was World class standards deleted?

[edit]

I ran across a red link to it in New Math, and it sounded interesting, so I created a stub. In the process of Googling for material on it, I ran across a fairly decent article on it in Wikipedia mirror answers.com.

I am not very experienced at tracing deletions, but all I found was that you deleted it uncontested on Nov. 3. I assume you probably deleted it since it is just a phrase and not really anything official. Or alternatively, it was very similar to one of the top Google hits, so maybe plagiarism was your objection?

I think the article's main value is in Wikipedia:Build the web, and I also believe in Wikipedia:Wikipedia is not paper. I also love the fact that Wikipedia is the most comprehensive resource anywhere, where you can always get information on ANYTHING, and I'm proud to be a part of that.

Anyway, this makes me worry about the principle of uncontested deletions. An article, no matter how big or how old, can just plain disappear in 5 days unless you watch it like a hawk? That seems like a power that needs to be used very judiciously to avoid wiping out someone's hard work. At the very least it should be possible to find the history of deletions, since it's very hard to track deletions, or in this case, the REASON for the deletion. So people will do just what I did, re-invent the wheel, which is to no ones benefit. This paragraph is just me thinking out loud on the Wikipedia deletion policy.

Some calibration advice, please

[edit]

Can you help me calibrate my response to articles needing improvement?

My specific question is in regards to the article Tribalmedia. This is a stub article about a company, and reads like a trade press release. In my opinion, there is no claim of notability, and my search on Google didn't turn up anything I consider notable (in other words, all I found was different forms of advertising.) So last week I prodded the article, hoping that it would be rewritten to be something besides an advert. Instead an employee (User:Elliotharmon) of the company removed the prod without providing any improvement.

So here is were I need a little calibration. My sentiment is to tag the AfD, following all the steps. But would you mind looking at the article and tell me if I'm going overboard? I'm inclined to take the word of Elliotharmon that he is just trying to present facts, but, the facts point to AfD, in my opinion. So, your advice, YA, would be helpful. Is AfD too bold, or should a few other tags, such as notability be applied.

Thanks again for your help.WVhybrid 23:30, 11 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate the feedback that I received during the RfA process. Unfortunately, I withdrew my candidacy. However, your participation is appreciated. I have made my New Years Resolution (effective immediately) to attempt to vote on at least 50 WP:XFD/week (on at least 5 different days), to spend 5 hours/week on WP:NPP, to be active in WikiProjects and to change the emphasis of my watchlist from editorial oversight to vandalism prevention. I have replaced several links that I had on my list to some that I think are more highly vandalized (Tiger Woods, Barry Bonds, my congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr., my senator Barrack Obama and Jesse Jackson). My first day under my newly turned leaf was about what I hope a typical day to be. I quickly found a vandal, made a few editorial changes to Donald Trump, voted at WP:CFD and WP:AFD, continued attempted revitalization of Wikipedia:WikiProject_Chicago and proposed a new stub type as a result of WP:NPP patrol. I hope this will broaden my wikipedia experience in a way that makes me a better administrator candidate. I hope to feel more ready to be an admin in another 3000 or so edits. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2007_January_4#State_ship-related_categories as soon as the cfd was removed, some one started abusing there power and put it back up. Please put your vote to keep thread up again. Once a cfd is removed, they should have to wait 6 months to put it back. This is nothing more than abuse because somebody didn't get their way. --71Demon 20:32, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

PS I have been working on Appalachia at the request of AB. --71Demon 20:32, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

An Editor that just don't get it

[edit]

File:USS Barbour County.jpg can you lock this photo. The editor ignors the US-Navy photo, Public Domain. I got the photo saved to disk at the Mariners Musuem outside Norfolk. --71Demon 22:58, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I uploaded another photo of the ship labled it with the same {PD-USGov-Military-Navy-NHC} tag, so it is properly documented as Public Domain. IF they guy screws with this one, then I know he is stalking my editing. --71Demon 23:23, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, can you lock it so the Bot doesn't mess wiht it anymore. I'm trying to work on the WV ships, and do need to be battling a bot all the time. PS Went to the state of the state address last night. The response was lukewarm at best. --71Demon 00:00, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He has his buddy screwing with me now. This is labled as coming from the Defense Visual Information Center which is part of the US Government making it public domain. IF you goto their site, and search for the USS Barbour County, it brings up a series of photos one of which is the one uploaded. Image:USS Barbour County (LST-1195).JPG It doesn't get any clearer than that. --71Demon 01:20, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I got another admin to take care of it. Thanks --71Demon 20:09, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

[edit]

Thanks for letting me know about my mistakes. I'm happy to try my best and keep the WV pages for the places and things I know as current as I can. I've went back and re-edited the ones you pointed out to me and I hope they are now satisfactory. Thanks again for letting me know! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Just2584 (talkcontribs) 01:43, 12 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Upon editing the West Virginia turnpike's entry for the Tamarack, I set up a future page in case the article's length warrants it. The page, Tamarack, Best of West Virginia, redirects to West Virginia Turnpike#Tamarack. While doing a generalised search for the Tamarack, however, I came across the Tamarack (WV) which was recently created, long after the established article at the West Virginia Turnpike.

Could the Tamarack (WV) article be merged into the Tamarack, Best of West Virginia article? Thanks, Seicer (talk) (contribs) 19:54, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Only one guy upsetting the apple cart now. Don't think he will ever be satified. Maybe if I put video of tape on Youtube of me and Sandy Berger hanging out together in the National Archieves, but not before. --71Demon 21:41, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He finally realized he was the only one complaining and went back and reversed his edits. --71Demon 01:20, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I seem step into contrevesy all the time, even when I think things are super obvious. I think it is important to use the correct spelling in an educational tool. Could you take a look at this please. Thanks --71Demon 13:57, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
