Hospital at Scutari

Just wanted to apologise if I was a bit blunt - I was really ill at the time. Basically, the image looks just a little off in the colouration, and I wanted to poke at the original to see if that's just how it was made, or if there's some way to fix it. It may well be the former. Shoemaker's Holiday (talk) 08:06, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

Thank you. I provided a link to the uncompressed image file on the candidacy page. There is a gouge on the bed corner (first on the right) that was corrected after the histogram, so it is unfixed in that file. Cheers, — Jake Wartenberg 13:55, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

Hi! Could you please correct the series title of the image? I don't think Library of Congress is correct. The data base of National Diet Library says it's Nihon manzai, not Nippon banzai. I'm sorry that I cannot link the page because the pages there would time out quickly. If you want to see the page, Click this and click English page is here on the right top, then put 百撰百笑 in the title box and click search, then click #1 百撰百笑 and when you see the page of the book, click Full Record. Now you can see the reading of the title. This is a Japanese book. Please believe us. 萬歳 could be read as banzei, manzai and mansai and according to ja:万歳, there was a manzai reading at the early Meiji era. IMHO, the word is a pun of banzai, manzai and a noun 満載/まんさい/mansai. Thank you. Oda Mari (talk) 07:51, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
P.S. FYI. Do you know this site? Oda Mari (talk) 09:24, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

I fixed this at File:Forces_returning_2.jpg. Let me know if this is right. Thanks, — Jake Wartenberg 12:40, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
Thank you for the correction. It's right. One more thing. Click the link above, the one in P.S. (don't worry it's in English), and click database search and put 'Toroke musha'. You can see another print from the book. Then click the image. You can see the publishing date (April 7, 1904) of the book. It's a reliable source. Happy editing! I might not get anything in this week. I'm at the developers meetup where I'm involved with integrating OpenStreetMap into Wikipedia. Welcome to WikiProject Crime

Hi! I noticed you recently became a member of WP Crime/Criminal Bio and the Serial Killer Task Force and want to welcome you. The project is in dire need of more active/semi-active members. As far as I'm aware, User:Wildhartlivie and I are the most active members, while other editors keep an eye on related articles for vandalism, irrelevant pop culture references, etc. Feel free to drop a note on my talk page if you have any questions. Best regards, momoricks (make my day) 02:16, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Feel free to watchlist any crime-related pages you are interested in. Most of these articles are far from being up to snuff and, as expected with controversial topics, are often targets for vandalism and addition of unsourced info. I am only able to be on here part time so I don't have many pages on my watchlist; however, I do watch Serial killer, Mass murder, Spree killer, List of serial killers by country, and List of events named massacres. Thanks! momoricks (make my day) 01:26, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Issac zamora.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

License tagging for File:CondomKrause.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:CondomKrause.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 19:06, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:CondomKrause.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:CondomKrause.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. +Angr 05:58, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use Image:JGilchrist.jpg

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:JGilchrist.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Fut.Perf. 19:37, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

Would you be interested in joining this project? We need more editors who share a burden for rescuing promising editors who have gotten into serious trouble because of behavioral issues. IF (a fundamental condition!) they are interested in reforming and adapting to our standards of conduct, and are also willing to abide by our policies and guidelines, rather than constantly subverting them, we can offer to help them return to Wikipedia as constructive editors. Right now many if not most users who have been banned are still active here, but they are here as socks or anonymous IPs who may or may not be constructive. We should offer them a proper way to return. If you think this is a good idea, please join us. -- Brangifer (talk) 04:15, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

I wish to note how humbled I was when I read Buster7's support comment, although a fair majority gave me great pleasure. I would also note those whose opposes or neutral were based in process concerns and who otherwise commented kindly in regard to my record.
I recognise that the process itself was unusual, and the format was generally considered questionable - and I accept that I was mistaken in my perception of how it would be received - but I am particularly grateful for those whose opposes and neutrals were based in perceptions of how I was not performing to the standards expected of an administrator. As much as the support I received, those comments are hopefully going to allow me to be a better contributor to the project. Thank you. Very much. LessHeard vanU (talk) 12:44, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

Fw: Signature size

You may be saying that my signature disrupts because of my comments in the WP:FIC (probably, I guess), so I realize that some computers does not have my typeface in their database, and they substitute the missing font for another that is very big at that size, so i decide to made a totally new one, i won´t take more than a month. Edit to SPI archive

I wasn't expecting a response. I just wanted to document it for reference the next time. And I assure you, there will be a next time, and a next, and a next, until they figure out a way to stymie that guy altogether. He's been at this since October of 2006 with no signs of letting up. MascotGuy Quick CU request

I believe that I was following the instructions... "Blocking of underlying IPs for a longer term than afforded by autoblock." That is what I am asking for, so I added it under the Quick CU section. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 01:40, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Borderline here. I agree that this probably meets the quick CU request criteria, but as these new sockpuppets are currently undocumented, and the IP is unlisted, we would prefer a case to be filed in future. It just keeps everything in one place. Thanks, PeterSymonds (talk) 01:55, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
I'm a little lost here by what you mean by "undocumented". See WP:LTA/MG, AbuseFilter #159, and Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/MascotGuy. I can't list the underlying IP as well, that is what the CU is for, right? But if you want me to dump everything into the old SPI case, that's fine. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 02:01, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
Ah, I see, I wasn't aware of the long term abuse report. In that case what you did was fine. Sorry if this process seems overly bureaucratic, but a big problem SPI has is undocumented sockpuppetry. Stuff that gets done without a case or an abuse report often goes missing, creating problems further down the line (for example, if they request an unblock, and an admin has just blocked with the summary "abusing multiple accounts", it takes some time to confirm how that was determined and whether it was accurate. However, with the LTA report, it shouldn't be an issue. Best, PeterSymonds (talk) 02:16, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
Sorry if I came across as a bit grumpy. I've been dealing with MascotGuy for so long that I've gotten a little impatient when it comes to him. Usually either I or PMDrive1061 (we have become the defacto keepers of the MG LTA page) block the accounts with MascotGuy in the reason. The SPI instructions is a little on the dense side, but I can understand the need to organize thing. Trying to stuff database-like material into a Wiki isn't very easy to do. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 03:55, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
No worries. I shall try to be a bit more tactful in my edit summaries. — Jake Wartenberg 04:08, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for following up. While I realize that a checkuser is involved, I think there is more than ample evidence outside of what a CU will accomplish that could link the other accounts. Furthermore, there seems to be no info on the IP addresses. Could you either unarchive it and/or annotate your thoughts on the IPs and remaining account? — BQZip01 — talk 06:17, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

We don't really unarchive things, and besides, that would generate a lot of clutter with all the stuff that has already been taken care of. But feel free to open a new case! — Jake Wartenberg 11:36, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Dear Jake, Thanks for your note about why the case was delisted. I forgot to specify code F. About the Thorny Yellowwood DYK submission

Just wanted to explain that User:Poyt448 is very new to Wikipedia, he only started in May. Nonetheless he has been making some very good contributions, but does not yet know all there is to know about a few things, like citations, so if it is possible to help him out, or at least to encourage him a bit that would be great. This is his first DYK submission. Best to you, Invertzoo (talk) 12:03, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

Thank you very much for the note. If a message I left came off as bitey I really appreciate it when people let me know, and I realize this may have happened. I dropped him a note thanking him for the submission and linking to documentation. I will check back and clean things up if he makes mistakes with the markup, which can be a nightmare at first. — Jake Wartenberg 12:51, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

Naw, what you left him wasn't really bitey, it's just that he's so new and enthusiastic and ambitious, and has done so much good work already, that I want to protect him against getting really discouraged and giving up, which has almost happened once before. Thanks for being kind. Best, Invertzoo (talk) 13:41, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

Closed sockpuppet investigation - why?

I am, to put it mildly, bewildered why the Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Uarrin investigation was closed and archived without anyone looking at the edits. The explanation was "Clerk note: AFD closed a few days ago. Closing." which, while true, misses the overall problem of there being a whole slew of accounts out there seemingly being used in tandem to make edits on a variety of articles in what is likely either a sockpuppet or meatpuppet situation to give a false sense of consensus. The AFD in question was only the event that triggered noticing of the suspicious activity, not the sole extent of the behavior under dispute. If you think it's not worth looking into yourself, perhaps you could reopen it to let someone else do it. I spent hours locating these accounts and providing explanations and diffs, and it's distubring to see that all be for naught just because an AFD is now closed. DreamGuy (talk) 20:30, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

Ooh dear. I misread another clerk's comment; I'm really sorry. The case has been re-opened, and I expect someone will deal with it soon. — Jake Wartenberg 20:59, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

Yup, it was Bambifan alright.

Jeez, the kid never learns. Check out the talk page on that account you did the CU on. Thanks for that, by the way. Earlier today, I blocked an anon IP at a hotel in South Carolina, so I'm going on the assumption that he's on vacation...meaning he's clearly brought along a laptop and is going to wreak havoc from hotel IPs. Oy vey. Thanks again for the help. Regards, --PMDrive1061 (talk) 01:05, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

Ooh, you are right about that. Might be good to point things like that out on the case page in the future; we usually just look at the contribs. Thought it would be good to make a habit of giving talk pages the once-over. Anyway, a CU checked and blocked the underlying ranges. Cheers! — Jake Wartenberg 01:16, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

Thanks, bro. Found another sleeper and brother, it's an oldie. I've blocked pretty much all the "pets" against him, but he's a clever little monkey, this one. I'm going to do a formal CU for User:Deb2222 and see what develops. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 01:32, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

Milli Tharana Translation

The word Allah translates as God; where the English version of Milli Tharana reads "Allah" it has not been translated, you need to translate it to "God." Allah and God are not two seperate things, the only difference is that one is an English word and one is not. This translation is used in the (direct) quote from the Afghan constitution on the page in question, which you didn't both to read I take it? included here; "The national anthem of Afghanistan shall be in Pashto with the mention of "God is Greatest" as well as the names of the ethnicities of Afghanistan." Presently, the English translation does not say God is Greatest. Revert it from Allah to God.

The word is often used in English too, as a reference to the Muslim deity. — Jake Wartenberg 22:21, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

Crossing paths...

Thanks for the kind words re Alan Berkman at DYK. He poses a fascinating question of redemptive justice, accomplishing so much to help people while being so actively involved in groups that wanted to destroy society using explosives and other acts of violence. The hook seemed so wrong to me in a way as it seemed to focus on a rather negative aspect of his life, though I hope the hook draws people in to read more about him. First SPI, now DYK, we certainly seem to be crossing paths. Thanks again for all of your efforts. Alansohn (talk) 19:06, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

It really is fascinating. Often society entourages us to think of people and events in black and white terms of good and bad, and it's helpful to escape from that. And sometimes people's intentions are so different from the outcomes of their actions. Thank you for taking the time to write me the note, it means a lot. — Jake Wartenberg 20:48, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
Your response was very insightful and I've expressed this black hat vs. white hat phenomenon on my user page in terms of how Wikipedia justice works, but it truly is difficult for all of us humans in general to see people in the shades of gray that almost all people are and not as stark choices of black or white. Berkman represents someone whose gray is a mix of tremendous amounts of both black and white, making it that much harder to see a middle ground for him. On an unrelated issue, how long should the Checkuser take once you've approved the check at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Racepacket? Alansohn (talk) 13:35, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
Normally endorsed checkuser requests are taken care of pretty quickly. But we have had an influx of cases now that school is out, and it does not help that the bot that maintains the transclusions and case pages is broken, taking up valuable clerk time... So anyway, things are backlogged a little, but I hope that someone will (and someone should) get to it soon. — Jake Wartenberg 14:55, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

Deletion of Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009

Hello,

I am giving you this as a courtesy copy because you were among those who commented on deletion of this article. It is the text I sent to the Admin who deleted the article.

Cheers

Hello,

I was very interested in the fact that this article was deleted, well astounded might be the correct word. I read with interest the deletion log and I understand that the article has very little chance of passing. However I must assert that this does not mean that it is below the threshold of notability. I did a little research to see exactly how notable this bill is.

I went to http://stats.grok.se/ to look up how often this article was viewed:

  • Jan 2009 - 577 views
  • Feb 2009 - 4487 views
  • Mar 2009 - 3016 views
  • Apr 2009 - 2321 views
  • May 2009 - 6826 views
  • total - 17227 views

Even after it was deleted, in June, the deletion page was viewed 92 times.

To be fair, however, I ran view statistics for 10 random articles to see if the Blair Holt article received more views. Of the 10 I looked up, only two got more hits. This is hardly enough for a true statistical comparison, but it would indicate that the article was getting more hits than the majority of Wikipedia articles. This seems to indicate notability.

Next I went to Google to see how many Web hits I would get if I looked it up. For Blair Holt bill, I get 1,120,000 hits. I went to Google News and discovered there have been thousands of news stories on the bill as well.

As a final note, I was at the Utah State Republican convention where it was brought up and discussed by Rep. Jason Chaffetz, which indicates that despite the fact that there is only one sponsor, the bill is receiving considerable buzz in congress.

The bill is notable for another reason. It delegates powers reserved for the congress in the Constitution (the right to make laws) to one person, namely the Attorney General.

Given all this, I can only conclude that the article, and the bill are indeed notable enough to merit inclusion in Wikipedia.

Thanks for your consideration,

I'm looking for comments on John Christie (murderer)

Hello Jake Wartenberg,

I've requested a peer review for the article on John Christie (murderer) and I'm looking for feedback from people interested in serial killers. John Christie was a British serial killer from the 1940s and 50s who murdered a number of women but was also controversially involved in another murder trial, where he gave what's now considered perjured evidence against a fellow tenant. The case generated a lot of controversy in the UK. I'm hoping to turn the article into a featured article, so I'm looking for any comments about potential problems or if there's anything that needs improving. The peer review is available here. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

rushed SPI

Something has gotten mixed up over at [4] with all the rush to move things around and apparently move multiple SPIs into one user account. You wrote that Flygonengar was indef'd, but that isn't true he was only blocked for 31 hours. If he's supposed to be indef'd someone needs to have the blocking admin fix that. There also didn't seem to be any templates put on the account to inform them.--Crossmr (talk) 08:36, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know; these things do get mixed up sometimes. It should all be straitened out now, Flygonengar is indef'd and the other account is unblocked. — Jake Wartenberg 13:58, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

KillerChihuahua's words of advice (posted by NW)

Congratulations. Here are what pass for words of wisdom from the puppy:
  1. Remember you will always protect the wrong version.
  2. Remember you must always follow the rules, except for when you ignore them. You will always pick the wrong one to do. (See #5)
  3. Remember to assume good faith and not bite. Remember that when you are applying these principles most diligently, you are probably dealing with a troll.
  4. Use the block ability sparingly. Enjoy the insults you receive when you do block.
  5. Remember when you make these errors, someone will be more than happy to point them out to you in dazzling clarity and descriptive terminology.
  6. and finally, Remember to contact me if you ever need assistance, and I will do what I am able.

SPI section header problem

NuclearWarfare gave me your name in an ongoing discussion I've been having with him and Luna Santin about the problem with Section Headers. Rather than repeat them all, I will give you links to the 2 discussions:

  1. Thread#1
  2. Thread#2

From what I understand, the software problems have been corrected for the most part, and from what I've seen, the problem now is that when one SPI is introduced with section headers, the problems that occur now are because some SPIs are in the old form and some with section headers, so the sequencing gets hosed up. This is that situation which I set up in my sandbox and NuclearWarfare verified that this is what he saw when I tried to put through an SPI with section headers (BullRangifer had section headers, Egglianderou does not) [6]. I am trying to set up a "form" with section headers that would be transcluded correctly, and make it easier for the checkuser to go through the SPIs. Here is what I came up with (now both SPIs use the same new form): [7]. I just chose pink at random - the delination can be any color. If you have some time to look at it, I would appreciate it. Please give me any comments, or problems you see. Thanks. --stmrlbs|talk 02:19, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

Hi Jake, as the RfA has closed, I've e-mailed you with my concerns. [8] I'd appreciate a response at your earliest convenience. SlimVirgin talk|contribs 02:19, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

Jake, the RfA has closed and you are under no obligation to take any matter relating to your suitability for adminship any further. Should any contributor have concerns regarding your account, and you choose not to discuss it off-Wiki - including non visible channels, then they may open an SPI detailing those concerns or mail a friendly CU or ArbCom with same. If a contributor prefers not to take these avenues, and in the absence of you being amenable to responding to ex-Wiki queries, then they should Wikipedia:Assume good faith and trust that the 150 supporters of your sysopping had a fair idea of what they were doing. LessHeard vanU (talk) 19:36, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

Isn't a checkuser in order for this case. In the prior case Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Small Victory/Archive, Checkuser indicated that they are unrelated. Wapondaponda (talk) 13:13, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

Turns out it was. Thanks for letting me know. — Jake Wartenberg 02:36, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

Rvcx

I got an email from user:Rvcx asking me why he was blocked. I don't see a reason given on his/her talk page on-wiki (though the block log is self explanatory), and the SPI case is still open; it has other issues noted, and a note saying if in doubt on the current findings a third opinion wouldn't be unreasonable.

The "User:Benignprank" account is also blocked (by user:Mikaey). It's common done to block likely socks but then to only warn the main account (at least in the first instance) -- then see what happens.

Unless something has gone on that I'm unaware of, it might be premature to judge the SPI outcome, and also premature to block the Rvcx account (at least). Maybe unblock as a courtesy until the matter's concluded? Possibly (if inclined to add a condition) if Rvcx agrees he/she will voluntarily avoid editing Carly Fiorina for the time being to avoid issues while the case is open.

FT2 (Talk | email) 01:46, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

I think there was a bit of a misunderstanding on my part. I took your comments on the case (likely, given the behavioral) to mean that part was "finished", given the fact that the request to hold the case open was made in the context of the possibility of a third account. I was aware of the possibility that a decision to only warn Rcvx would be entirely valid, and I consulted Mikaey who informed me that he had not intentionally not blocked that account. I'll unblock Rcvx until the matter is concluded. — Jake Wartenberg 02:04, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
More likely my mistake, I had thought it left the whole case open, but it probably wasn't 100% clear (as you note) so the issue's more on my side. FT2 (Talk | email) 02:07, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

Two days as admin and already you helped

Thanks for protecting Sooriyaseva against vandalism. I put a warning on the editor's page, but nothing seemed to be sinking in.

As an enthusiastic new admin, can I ask your advice on a problem that I've been tussling with? The details are in this request for mediation [9]. The person mainly responsible for the issue isn't negotiating. I tried presenting the matter in a limited scope to WP:BLP [10], but now it's been archived without comment one way or the other. The problem, especially as presented to BLP, doesn't seem overly ambiguous, so I'm confused why more definitive statements aren't forthcoming? Best Regards, Piano non troppo (talk) 13:38, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

Mediation is not actually an area I am too experienced in. Perhaps you could try one of the members of the medcom, such as PhilKnight. Sorry I can't be more helpful in this matter. Good luck! — Jake Wartenberg 13:49, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

Paket Aranžman (box set) deletion

I actually was not sure how to place the deletion tag as the information on the Paket Aranžman (box set), which is a reissue of the 1981 compilation album, is also placed on the article for the compilation itself, here Paket aranžman#Box set reissue. There is no need for the article existence, so I requested a deletion. Now that you see the my point, which tag should be put for the Paket Aranžman (box set) article deletion?

I have redirected it. This is something you can do, too, in the future. — Jake Wartenberg 13:52, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

An apology

Hi Jake,

I'm writing to retract the concerns I had a few days ago that you might be a returning user, and to apologize to you without reservation. Several people that I trust have given me information that has convinced me I made a mistake. The reason for my concern was, as I explained by e-mail, that the pattern of some of your edits appeared similar to previous accounts, but I see now that there are alternative explanations, and in any event, I've been shown information that strongly cancels out my concerns. I am really very sorry for any distress or inconvenience I caused you, and I'll be adding a link to this apology to my oppose vote in your RfA to clear up the record. I wish you all the best in your future here as an editor and admin. SlimVirgin talk|contribs 22:22, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

Sock Puppet Tags

Why haven't you placed any sock puppet tags on the accounts of the user for this case? Moby-Dick3000 (talk) 19:24, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

Tagging isn't always done if the case does not involve multiple accounts. In this case I have tagged it, since you asked. Cheers, — Jake Wartenberg 20:57, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

deletion of page for jeff titus created by brian

Hi Jake,

My name is Jeff Titus. I just received an email through my info@jefftitus.com address from a fan named Brian in Seattle, WA (is it good netiquette to share email addresses here, I'm happy to do so).

He said that he tried to start a page on Wikipedia.org about me (he sent me a link to earlier and it didn't even have a photo of me or much content). It was almost immediately deleted due to "sock puppetry". He sent me your name in a screenshot as the person who was recorded as deleting the page.

I'm not worried about being listed on wikipedia, necessarily, although I am certainly referenced on Michael Manring's page ref>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Manring</ref> under his Discography / Collaborations section. I thought that perhaps one day my guitar playing and recorded works would one day, in fact, merit a mention. I just finished a short stint of concerts with Alex de Grassi and Michael Manring, which was an honor, but I'm definitely not as well-known as either of them.

Regardless, I'm not sure there is anything that can be done, but as he did contact me about it and I am honored by his attempt, I thought I would follow-up with you directly and ask if there's anything that would allow him to post the page in some other form as it would clearly benefit me when people are looking for more info about my music.

Thanks for keeping it real on Wikipedia. I'm sure your action was totally appropriate. :)

Best wishes and thanks for your time,

Jeff Titus Jeff (talk) 00:34, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your understanding. Unfortunately, the tone of the article was not really appropriate for an encyclopedia. It was also not in compliance with our licensing policy, having been taken from here. There was some confusion, as the behavior of the account your fan was using was similar some other ones, and we have a policy prohibiting use of multiple accounts by one user to avoid scrutiny. If your fan would like to create an article about you, he should read our notability guideline for musicians and then do so from scratch. Thanks, — Jake Wartenberg 02:05, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

The User page spammer SPI page

Hello, regarding that SPI page, the fact that they were using proxies shows clear bad faith and I am concerned this is a shared spamming tactic. How can we address this? This activity is ongoing (eg [11]) Triplestop x3 20:35, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

That looks like a possible article to me, and besides it is in userspace. You could take the subpage to MfD if you want, but there is nothing blockable. — Jake Wartenberg 20:38, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
