Translation of geography section from Spanish version of Elfen Lied.
Geography
[edit]The story Elfen Lied takes place in the city of Kamakura, Japan, located about 50 km southeast of Tokyo. A large part of the manga and especially the anime provide a very detailed and diverse deptiction of the diverse locations of the cities and the surrounding area, for example: Yuigahama beach, the shrines of Sasuke Inari and Zeniarai Benzaiten, and the nearby island of Enoshima. According to the director of the anime, Mamoru Kanbe "Personally, I really like Kamakura as a place. (...) Every time I go to Kamakura, I get this big boost of optimism and a feeling of incredible well-being at the same time."[1]
In another project also set in Kamakura, Kanbe only allowed characteristics of the city that he wanted; however, in Elfen Lied he said that story required him to recreate the city in graphic detail of the the backstreets and scenery, collaborating the contrast of emotions with the story.[1]
