Left paralyzed by a stroke in 1422, whereafter most his responsibilities were left to his son and co-emperor John VIII. Born 27 June 1350 in Constantinople. Died in Constantinople of natural causes on 21 July 1425 (aged 75). [1]

Son and successor of Manuel II; junior co-basileus since 1416 and effectively ruler since his father had suffered a stroke in 1422. Born 18 December 1392. Died in Constantinople of natural causes on 31 October 1448 (aged 55). [2]

Son of Manuel II; previously Despot of the Morea. Favored successor of his childless brother John VIII and their mother, Helena Dragaš. The final Roman emperor. Born 8 February 1405 in Constantinople. Died fighting the Ottomans during the Fall of Constantinople on 29 May 1453 (aged 48). [3]
