Dorian Ho is a Hong Kong designer. He created his eponymous fashion design brand specialized in evening gowns.
Biography
[edit]His father worked in the garment industry.[1] Dorian Ho studied at Boston University[2] and worked for Country Road. He returned to Hong Kong in 1993 and launched the domestic brand Doriano, which he then sold in 2000. He eventually launched a clothing brand in the USA with a friend[1] and presented his high-end Dorian Ho Collection at the Australian Fashion Week and at NY's Seventh on Sixth in 2001.[2]
His first creations were criticized in the USA for not having anything Chinese about it. He later introduced his collection D'Orient, characterized by a hybrid Chinese-European style.[1]
Dorian Ho Wedding (line of wedding gowns) was launched in 2005.[1] In 2008, he designed an equestrian collection for UPS that was presented during the Olympics.[3] In 2012, Dorian Ho unveiled a 8.88-million-dollar dress made with 10,000 pearls and inspired by the shape of the Perrier-Jouët champagne bottles.[4] In 2015, he designed Hublot's China's staff uniforms.[5][6]
He is a Buddhist.[7]
Work
[edit]Dorian Ho buys couture fabrics in Europe and stitches it in China by skilled seamstresses, thus offering equivalent products luxury fashion houses offer, but at a reduced Made in China cost (2 to 3 times cheaper than an equivalent Valentino or Versace dress).[8]
