Overview and history
[edit]In 1995, the company was incorporated as Specialty Ranbaxy Limited (SRL), a joint venture equally owned by Specialty Laboratories, a single largest source of specialized medical testing in the USA, and the Ranbaxy Laboratories Limited, an Indian pharmaceutical company owned by brothers Shivinder Mohan Singh and Malvinder Mohan Singh. In 2021 it was selected as the official diagnostic lab partner by the Indian Olympic Association to provide diagnostic services to Indian athletes and officials for the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympics. Later it also became the country’s first lab to be integrated with Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission as a Health Information Provider. In 2023, SRL announced that it would be rebranding as Agilus Diagnostics, as a result of its work over the past few years towards rebranding. Agilus is inspired by the Latin term, agilis which stands for agility.
Business Acquisition
[edit]In 2010, Super Religare Laboratories Limited acquired Piramal Diagnostic Services and its network of 107 laboratories from Piramal Healthcare for ₹600 crore.[1]
In 2011, Fortis Healthcare completed the acquisition of 74.59% stake in SRL.[2] After being acquired by Fortis, the company rebranded itself as SRL Diagnostics.[3]
In 2021, Super Religare Laboratories Limited acquired the remaining stake in its Kerala-based joint venture, DDRC, for ₹350 crore. With the addition of DDRC's 220 labs to its lab network, Super Religare Laboratories Limited became the biggest pathology lab chain in India with a total of 430 labs.[4]
In 2023, SRL Limited was involved in brand litigation and failed to meet legal compliance requirements. As a result, SRL Group did not grant the brand license for "SRL Diagnostics" to SRL Limited. Consequently, SRL Limited was unable to use the "SRL Diagnostics" brand and changed its company name to Agilus Diagnostics Limited. [5]
