Modern services question
[edit]What's going on in this "Modern Services" section? The Arriva Trains Wales routes listed are total nonsense - there's no such thing as the "Crewe to Manchester and North Wales Coast Line" with neighbouring stations at Wilmslow and Chester — the ATW service from Manchester is the Manchester to Cardiff Central or Pembroke Dock service, preceding station Wilmslow, following station either Nantwich or Shrewsbury. Neither is Crewe on the Shrewsbury-Chester line; it is the origin of the Crewe-Shrewsbury local service, next stop Nantwich. -- Arwel 01:28, 10 September 2005 (UTC)
Well if you know better, correct it! The box is meant to indicate that the trains from manchetser (e.g. crewe to manchester) line are through trains onto the North Wales Coast Line, hence the break in the link (it is not one line, but two with through trains). If the through trains from manchester actually go onto a different line (i.e. one towards cardiff), then this wrong and should be changed. Remember that it is best to list lines rather than services as lines remain whilst services are more liekly to change regularly.
From other wiki pages and the arrvia trains website, it appears that the manchetser-cardiff service follows the Welsh Marches Line to Newport. As some of these services stop at the local stops to Shrewsbury, I've merged the crewe-shrewsbury line into the Welsh Marches Line. I've also created seperate box for the North Wales Coast Line.Robdurbar 10:57, 10 September 2005 (UTC)
in the external links section there is a station layout, i believe (being a crewe citizen that this is a diagram for the propoesed rebuilding of the station, the taxi rank and car park at the bottom of the picture do not exist and the concourse section is currently a completely diffrent shape and also houses the current taxi rank, i believe that this pdf file must have been taken from the future proposals section of the cheshire county council website.

A Possible project (or sub-project) for Cheshire
[edit]I think a project or a sub-project (within the UK geography project) dealing with the whole of Cheshire would be a good idea. I have taken as a precedent the project about Cornwall, which any project dealing with Cheshire could hope to aspire to, since this project has constructed Featured Articles about Cornwall-related things. So, I've listed a proposed project concerning Cheshire on Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals. I think it can easily co-exist with Wikipedia:WikiProject UK geography. I would not want to diminish or withdraw from this other project. If you are interested in contributing to this proposed project, please add your name to list at the appropriate place. What is the logic...
[edit]What is the logic behind having this article in Category:Railway stations opened in 1861? The station was rebuilt in that year, but it initially opened in 1837, and I'm changing the category to match. -- Arwel Parry (talk) 13:12, 28 December 2008 (UTC)
Schematic layout
[edit]Please can someone with knowledge of the lines in and around the station please take a look at the schematic layout section and sort it out. To me it looks like a complete mess and jumble of lines. I can't even understand the orientation of the platforms. Just added Template:Unclear section to attract attention to it. Wikipedia:Route_diagram_template and Wikipedia:Route_diagram_template/Catalog_of_pictograms are worth a read if you have the knowledge of the lines, but just not the understanding of how to make a diagram. Disused lines

- None of the lines through Crewe were closed as a direct result of the Beeching Report. Some of the local passenger services (such as those to Chester) were withdrawn - but all of the lines remained open, if only for longer-distance services. Two routes were closed as a result of decisions made pre-Beeching: the ex-LNWR line to Northwich (via Sandbach and Middlewich) went in 1960, and although the ex-GWR route to Wellington (via Nantwich and Market Drayton) was closed in September 1963 (after the publication of the Beeching Report), it had already been scheduled for closure at the time that the Report was prepared (see p. 129 of the Report). --Redrose64 (talk) 11:42, 4 November 2012 (UTC)

Old plans
[edit]It's not my subject but I see the Cheshire Records Office has tweeted plans of the station in 1876 and 1912 which presumably are contemporary and so would be out of copyright, someone might want to chase them up? Le Deluge (talk) 11:07, 13 April 2022 (UTC)
Unusual - even unique - in the British railway system?
[edit]The article describes the fact that the station was built as a junction, but doesn't really emphasise its highly unusual position in the railway system. For the nearest town to a railway station with 12 platforms to have a population of just 55,000 is unheard of.
