Poronaysky District (Russian: Порона́йский райо́н) is an administrative district (raion) of Sakhalin Oblast, Russia; one of the seventeen in the oblast.[1] As a municipal division, it is incorporated as Poronaysky Urban Okrug.[6] It is located in the eastern central part of the Island of Sakhalin. The area of the district is 7,280.2 square kilometers (2,810.9 sq mi).[2] Its administrative center is the town of Poronaysk.[1] Population (excluding the administrative center): 21,686 (2010 Census);[3] 10,857 (2002 Census);[8] 17,977 (1989 Soviet census).[9]
