USS T C Hart involved in rescue support at collision of USS Belknap and USS JFK

[edit]

The USS TC Hart was operating on scene within about 2 miles in November 1975 when the USS Belknap collided with the aircraft carrier USS John F Kennedy in the Mediterranean Sea. The Hart was subsequently involved in assisting with rescue operations and damage control assistance along with USS Claude V. Rickets and other Navy ships. The Belknap superstructure was completely destroyed and 8 people died on the two ships from the ensuing fires. Wiki Commons page with photographs is at Category:USS Belknap and USS John F.
