The move was a scheme to avoid paying around 15 million Euro<ref>http://www.sportal.bg/news.php?news=606128</ref> of debts (half of which taxes owed to the National Revenue Agency)<ref>http://www.webcafe.bg/sportcafe/bg-futbol/id_783629442_Sadat_reshi:_TsSKA_dalji_33_mln_leva_14_mln_sa_kam_NAP</ref>.

CSKA (Sofia), which is an abbreviation for Central Sports Club of the Army, was the most successful Bulgarian club. It was led intentionally<ref>http://gong.bg/bg-football/drugi/pfk-cska-ad-shte-stava-fk-lupi-ad-381946?</ref> to bankruptcy in September, 2016, but generally suffered bad management in the last few decades. Having won 31 league titles since 1948 when it was established, the club was forced to play in the 3rd Bulgarian division in the 2015/2016 season due to unfunded debts which didn't allow the club to get a license for professional football. The replacement with Litex (Lovech) aimed at having the club play in the top division as "CSKA-Sofia".

History

19 July 2016: Foundation

FC CSKA 1948 is a Bulgarian football club established by supporters of CSKA (Sofia) unhappy with the situation leading to the bankruptcy of their club and its replacement on all levels with a new club created from merging[2] PFC Litex Lovech and PFC Chavdar Etropole. Litex, a club with a short but relatively successful history, was merged with the smaller Chavdar Etropole and was renamed "CSKA-Sofia" and moved with almost its entire team and staff to Sofia in 2016 using CSKA Sofia's logo, stadium and other facilities. The move was a scheme to avoid paying around 15 million Euro[3] of debts (half of which taxes owed to the National Revenue Agency)[4]. CSKA (Sofia), which is an abbreviation for Central Sports Club of the Army, was the most successful Bulgarian club. It was led intentionally[5] to bankruptcy in September, 2016, but generally suffered bad management in the last few decades. Grisha Ganchev, owner of Litex and controversial businessman, who was charged with tax evasion[6], being part of an organized criminal gang[7] and making death threats to the former head of the National Revenue Agency in 2015[8], is the main figure behind the move. His campaign to replace CSKA (Sofia) with Litex (Lovech) was backed by the Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and the Sport Minister Krasen Kralev and was seen by most as an attempt to overtake the bankrupted CSKA, which at that time was under administration, without paying anything. Part of CSKA Sofia's supporters and most veterans[9] [10] did not accept the replacement of CSKA with renamed Litex and established CSKA 1948 - a club starting from the lowest football level in Bulgaria. The club's credo, written on the back of the players shirts' collar is "Honor", as a way to show the most important element of the club. Most of the players at CSKA 1948 are a product of the bankrupted CSKA's youth academy and the head coach Valentin Iliev is a very popular former player among CSKA fans. At the moment the club is on top of its Sofia regional group and is looking to climb to the premier league year-by-year. [1]
