Kanju

Kanju is a village situated on the bank of the River Swat in Swat, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. Saidu Sharif Airport is situated in Kanju. The Frontier Constabulary FC district headquarter is also situated in Kanju. The head quarters control almost the entire region of swat.

Location

It is two kilometres from Mingora, the main city of Swat District and about four kilometres from Saidu Sharif, the District Headquarters. it is situated on the bank of river swat.it is the first entry point to nekpekhail area.

Demographics

The pakhtoons of Kanju belongs to the "Yousafzai" tribe of Pukhtoons Pashtuns. kanju is conprised of several mohallah, ie. koz kanju, bar kanju, qala, manjawar, niamatabad, gharib abad, mati, quange, shambaba, ahmad thangay, chargo sha.The population of Kanju is about 30000.the pakhtoons of kanju belongs to different tribes such as: Niamat khail, khatak khail, rama khail, syeds.

Agriculture

sources of earning is agriculture, fruit farming,cottege industry. most of the male are working oversea, marine shipping. A considerable number of people own small and large business in various places of the N-W.F Province.

Education

kanju has high literacy rate as compared to other villages of district swat. it has produced the best mind in all times. the people of kanju possess both the traits of urban life and village life. There is a government girls degree college(Kanju township), government High School for boys, a middle school for girls and several primary school both for boys and girls. There are a number of public and private schools and colleges, prominent among them are GHS Kanju, GMS for Girls, Al-Razi Public School and College,Hira School and College, Iqra School and College, Shah Public School and College Muslim Hands Public School, Community welfare school, Continental Public School, Bolan Education Academy, Town Public School, etc.

Saidu Sharif Airport

Saidu Sharif Airport is situated between the Kanju and Dherai.

Tourist Attractions

It has some tourist attractions. The view of River Swat from Ayub Bridge in Kanju is magnificent. Saidu Sharif Airport is just a mile away from Kanju. Its a small airport mainly used for domestic flights. Though Kanju is expanding rapidly but still it has a touch of country life.

Kanju Township is a residential scheme undertaken by the SDDA. It is one of the beautiful residential schemes of the country primarily because of its location. it consist of two phases. phase one is ready while phase two is in the making. phase one consist of sectors from A to E. plots in sector one is more costly.
