Re. your last edit summary:
picture is self-explanitory
Apparently it isn't, since we disagree on how it meets the requirement that it aid in choosing between articles. Can you articulate an explanation for how it helps differentiate between the characters there? It seems to me a mass of characters, many of them too tiny to distinguish between. Do you have any thoughts about my earlier suggestions that a more appropriate image to include might be a shot of each of the three Optimus Primes mentioned, or my suggestion that your image might be more appropriate on the actual character pages?
as is the fair-use rational [sic]
There is no such thing a a "self-explanatory . . . fair-use rational[e]." See WP:FAIRUSE and WP:FURG. For each page on which an image appears, there needs to be a fair-use rationale.
no further explantion is required
This is not a particularly useful comment. I have tried to engage you on your talk page and on the article talk pages. Responding almost solely with edit summaries seems to demonstrate an unwillingness to discuss these edits, and is not a sign of good faith. --EEMeltonIV 05:32, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

Transformers: Generation 1 vs. Original Series

The name Transformers: Generation 1 is the accepted form on the Transformers Wiki Project. Before you start changing it in all their articles, you should propose such a change on their page and let the members decide. There are hundreds of articles that say G1, and one person changing it now would be inconsistant. You should propose it as a change and see if the other member s of the project agree or not. user:mathewignash

  • Unfortantly we have no better name to go on, but The Original Series is the best that we have --The Matrix Prime

Cybertron Transformers - Jungle Planet Transmetals

A refer you to the quote from Scourge's tech specs "Cold, distant, and prone to violent rage against those he views as lesser creatures, he holds most of the Jungle Planet firmly in his transmetal claw." Thus my reasoning that Jungle Planet Transformers are Transmetals. user:mathewignash

  • Refering to these units as "robotic" or "mechanical" is the accepted form on the Transformers Wiki Project. Lycans

Just so you know, while Lycans are obviously Werewolves, they are never referred to as such in the films or the novelisations, always being called Lycan. The only time I can remember where they were ever called that was in the first film, when Selene is explaining the war to Michael, and there she first calls them Lycans before simplifying that to Werewolves. On all other occasions they are called Lycans, including by high ranking vampires like Viktor and Lycans like Singh. The novels occasionally refer to them as such, but call them Lycans far more often. Thats why the article takes that line. Ta. SMegatron 09:58, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Magmatron

Yes I did read the version of your edit where you rewrote the tech spec data. However, they were still far too similar to his original tech spec cards. It would take too long to upload the image so Ill settle for a link to a page with the data [1]. As you can see, the only real changes are the removal of one sentence, a few more reorganized sentences and a few grammatical changes [2]. Look, I'm not trying to get into a fight with you. I know you're just trying to improve the articles: so am I, and I don't believe tech spec data should be removed altogether. However, all tech specs are still copyrighted by Hasbro, and as such are unusable, as Centrx noted above. If we rewrite them fully, still getting the same points across in different language, we still get the information across without causing a copyvio, as shown here [3]. I hope we can find a way to work together in future. Best Regards. SMegatron 20:35, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, I think we've misunderstood each other. The version of the page now is perfectly fine. However, as I said, it was the original rewrite I objected to. I rewrote that one because it was still too similar to the original tech spec. However, it looks fine now, and I have no further objections. I wasn't redoing your changes out of pettiness - its just that copyrighted tech specs, Marvel Universe bios, Dreamwave MTMTE bios, etc are unusable under the terms of wikipedia's copyright terms[4]. Because of the sheer number of them on pages, several, including Arcee and Scourge, have been reverted to a state before the specs were added in - thus losing everything else too. They were only restored after the bios were removed. At one point Red Alert was even deleted entirely because of it - the current version was restored by Mathewignash after removing all the bios. So, in order to prevent this from happening further, I try to remove them whenever I see them. Nothing personal, its just trying to make the articles look better. Anyway, I hope that clears things up between us. Best Regards.SMegatron 10:18, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Primes

I realise Im probably butting my nose in where it doesn't belong, however I couldn't help but notice the problem between you and Mat over the Prime's page. Your proposal to rename the page on Mat's talk sounds like a good idea: however I don't think thats accurate either. Its a tad ambiguous to say the least to call the catergory Primes/Primals, as a few characters don't fit either description (in fact I removed it from Hot Rod earlier today, as I didn't understand the purpose). Perhaps moving it to Primes and associated characters would help? I realise its clunky but it would probably better decribe it. Anyway, regards.SMegatron 20:26, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not at all, if anyone has any constructive criticism or relevant things to say I welcome them. I have been worried about the ambiguous of the category name myself as you noticed. “Primes and Associated Characters” might help that, or maybe “Prime Family” or “Primes and Linked Characters". --The Matrix Prime 01:25, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I rather like the latter of those options myself. Regards.SMegatron 08:14, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Then it's a toss up between "Primes and Linked Characters" or "Characters Associated with Prime" (which is a better phrased verison of the first suggestion.) Which do you think is better? --The Matrix Prime 15:40, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As you're the category's originator, I'll leave it up to you. I have to admit I think the first is more direct and to the point. Regards.SMegatron 18:29, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay --The Matrix Prime

Onyx Primal

Hey there. As you've obviously put quite a lot of time and effort into it, I thought I'd give you a heads up that I have just given Onyx Primal a bit of a cleanup. I've removed and reworded the tech spec stuff , added detail of the Botcon play he appeared in and added the usual "fictional character" intro. Anyway, look it over and give me a shout if you think anything needs changed. Regards.SMegatron 10:42, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Appreciate the heads up, looks great. I just tweaked the template a little inorder to get that color bar in. --The Matrix Prime 20:06, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Black Cat

I'm afraid your repeated claim that the Black Cat is an obvious homage to Catwoman has no basis.

CBR: "When you created the Black Cat to be Spider-Man’s new girl friend, was it linked to a desire to write stuff about Catwoman or was it only an homage?"

Marv: I didn’t plan Black Cat to be in Spidey. I created her for Spider-Woman (look at the letter column of the first B.C. story and you’ll see). I then decided to leave Spider-Woman and moved her over. So, I never even thought of Catwoman when I did her. I got the idea for her from a Tex Avery cartoon, Bad Luck Blackie.

Felicia Hardy's signature costume, cat burglar profession, and her steady relationship to Spider-man predates Selina Kyle's similar depiction in comics by almost a decade. Catwoman spent most of her comic life as a purple dressed female super villian who used big cats to commit anything but subtle crimes. Selina Kyle's current incarnation as a black suited cat burglar with romantic ties to Batman didn't occur until 1987 with Frank Miller's classic Batman: Year One.

I'm not certain if you are a Catwoman fan or are simply adding false material. I appreciate your interest in the character and we can easily take this to arbitration if you'd like.

Jedi Exile

3RR note

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions in a content dispute within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. Please do not repeatedly revert edits, but use the talk page to work towards wording and content which gains a consensus among editors. Thank you.

A citation has been provided to show why your edits are fallacious, but you have not provided a countering citation. Please stop making these gender-switching edits. EVula // talk // // 15:56, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just so you know, I've opened a topic about this situation on WP:ANI. EVula // talk // // 18:11, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just a question: in your last edit summary, you say that a consensus was made to make the article neutral. What discussion are you referring to? It seems to me that the consensus is that the gender is canonically female. --clpo13 07:03, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

For the last time!

Will you please discuss the changes to Jedi Exile you keep making? You have consistently reverted edits without any hint of discussion. If you keep reverting legitimate edits without mentioning them on the article's talk page, someone's going to hear about it, and you've already been in enough trouble regarding that article. Provide a verifiable source that the Exile is not female or leave the gender as it is. Please, read the talk page and discuss the issue there. Thank you. --clpo13 18:14, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • I've got no idea what you're talking about but I consider this borderline harassment. I’ve honestly got no wish to cause a lot of trouble and grief but please, for both our sakes, enough already.--The Matrix Prime 05:55, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, here are the issues:
  • You can't use the Matrix Prime picture on your user page. Non-free images are not allowed on user pages, see Wikipedia:Non-free content.
  • Don't edit war. If you disagree with someone, discuss the issue with them rather than repeatedly reverting the edit. Repeatedly reverting is not going to accomplish anything.
  • Don't put false and and threatening replies to comments by others. Statements like "This user was dealt with by the admins and apoligized for his rude remarks and made-up lies" and "The admins have dealt with this user" are not appropriate. —Centrxtalk • 06:02, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • But I OWN that picture. That doesn't allow me to use it? --The Matrix Prime 06:03, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • Copyright rules apply whether you have a copy of the picture or not. For example, if you were to write a book and then sell, the people you sold the book to would not be legally able to make copies of that book without your permission, even though they own a copy of the book. Copyright is a government-granted monopoly in order to encourage creative work. —Centrxtalk • 23:32, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am responding to a notice on the administrators' noticeboard questioning your recent behavior. (Note: I am not an administrator.) You have removed some valid comments by other users, and some valid content in articles, while accusing others of "vandalism." I ask you to assume good faith, and I quote you an adage from the Talmud: "Whoever accuses someone else of a fault is himself guilty of that same fault" (Tractate Kiddushin, ch. 4). Please stop referring to other users' edits as vandalism. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Shalom Hello 15:49, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • While I really do appreciate the thoughtfulness I would like to suggest you take this to heart as well. Not everything posted on administrators noticeboard is necessarily fully actuate nor does it necessarily tell the whole story. Thanks anyway. --The Matrix Prime 01:07, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Allops.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Allops.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. EEMeltonIV 13:53, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Allops.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Allops.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Thanks for uploading Image:Beast_Wars_Cybershark_TransMetal_II.JPG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 08:18, 23 July 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MER-C 08:18, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Allops.JPG)

⚠

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. EEMeltonIV 22:47, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Manual of Style for disambiguation pages

Please read Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style_(disambiguation_pages) before once again reverting the Optimus Prime disambiguation page into a collection of multiple links and unnecessary "not to be confused as"es. --EEMeltonIV 22:51, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I will restore the disambiguation page to the properly formatted version. Rather than UNDOING my edit -- which would also screw up the links by giving multiple bluelinks per each bulleted item, in violation of the manual of style -- it would be more prudent for you to add by hand the Optimus Prime picture. That said, the image is inappropriate to include for two reasons:
  1. The image you're trying to add does not have a fair-use rationale for use on the disambiguation page -- there is only a rationale for it's use on Optimus Prime itself. Please consider reviewing WP:FAIRUSE.
  2. The disambiguation page manual of style linked above states that "Including images is discouraged unless they aid in selecting between articles." Since the image is a jumble of different Optimus Primes, I don't see how it could help differentiate between the links there.

--EEMeltonIV 22:59, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Even if you want to add the picture -- please explain why you reverted to a version with other blatant errors and problems with the MOS? Please be more considerate and less haphazard in your edits. Additionally, you STILL do not have a fair-use rationale for the image's use on the disambiguation page. Lastly, can you explain HOW the image aids "in selecting between articles"? --EEMeltonIV 02:25, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I understand that you want the picture -- and, when I was first writing my comment under this section, my initial suggestions was that I would take the high road and make the simple edits necessary both to abide by the Manual of Style AND include your picture. It is careless and rude of you to knowingly make a blanket Undo of an edit that you know restores material that is in violation of Wikipedia's basic styles. Looking at your edits, you're more than knowledgeable of how to unlink material and how to add an image.
However, I changed my response when I took a closer look at the disambiguation page manual of style. You have yet to articulate a rationale for how that picture aids "in the selecting between articles". The picture, in fact, is a jumble of different characters, some of which aren't even listed on the disambig page. A more useful series of images, for example, might be a clear individual picture of each of the three Optimes Primes listed on the page; your collage I don't think meets the MOS requirement to offer aid, and it may even been a cluttering distraction. I'd be willing to keep the picture there...IF you can explain how the image meets the MOS requirements that it is actually useful, and not just decorative.
Lastly, and hopefully for the last time, because I don't know how much clearer I can make this: the Image:Allops.JPG picture does not have a fair-use rationale for its inclusion on the disambiguation page. It is a violation not just of Wikipedia style but of Wikipedia's policy to add a copyrighted image to a page without a fair-use rationale.
If I revert the page again any time soon, I will be in violation of WP:3RR. Given what I think is a crystal clear explanation (some of it repeated) on your talk page, I'll ask you to take an appropriate course of action, namely:
  1. Undo your edits to the disambiguation page
or
  1. Add a fair-use rationale to the image
  2. Restore the text on the disambiguation page to the last version I submitted
  3. Articulate an explanation of how the image aids in differentiating between the various options
Failing that, I will bring this up at the Administrator's noticeboard and let someone else step in. --EEMeltonIV 02:39, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have done the second step. The other two are up to you. I will again remove the image this evening if you do not provide a fair-use rationale and a explanation for how the image's inclusion helps readers choose which link to follow when they stumble upon the disambiguation page. If you again revert it, I will take it up at the administrators notice board. --EEMeltonIV 17:15, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is there any particular reason you reverted the disambiguation page to a version that included both the image and the incorrectly formatted text when the page's history included a version with both correctly formatted text and the image? Did you bother to check the page's history? Additionally, why did you restore the image to the page without adding a correct fair-use rationale and explanation for the picture's inclusion? Surely you could have included it when you made those edits to the picture itself? It is becoming difficult to assume good faith with your edits, as you demonstrate issues of ownership with this material. --EEMeltonIV 06:50, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps your allops.jpg would be more appropriate on the Optimus Prime page itself. That, after all, is the page for which you wrote the fair-use rationale. --EEMeltonIV 14:15, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair-use rationales

A fair-use rationale must be provided for EVERY use of a copyrighted, fair-use image. There is no fair-use rationale for any of the pictures on the List of Beast Wars characters page. I've reverted the page to include the maintenance tags. Please add a fair-use rationale for those images you'd like to include on that list. --EEMeltonIV 22:54, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, the misunderstanding is yours. If you want to use a fair-use image on two articles, you need to provide two separate (but often nearly identical) fair-use rationales. For example, Image:Savage-Noble.JPG has a fair-use rationale for use on Savage/Noble -- but it does not have a fair-use rationale for use on List of Beast Machines characters. As such, it is okay to display the image on the Savage/Noble page but not the List of Beast Machines characters page. Yes, adding fair-use rationales for each use is laborious, but it is a necessary part of contribution toward Wikipedia. Indeed, if the article is just a LIST of Beast Machines characters, the inclusion of copyright images may be questioned. But the images may be deleted outright from the article if there isn't at least an initial fair-use rationale. --EEMeltonIV 23:03, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Maintenance tags

Please do not remove maintenance tags, such as the in-universe tag you removed from Kreia, unless you also address the editing issues flagged. --EEMeltonIV 02:51, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair-use rationales

A fair-use rationale is required for every article on which an image appears. In your edit summary restoring images to the List of Beast Machines characters, you wrote "they cover both." However, I looked at the image pages for the first three images on that list and none of them include a fair-use rationale for use on that List. Image:Tscheetorbm.jpg has a FUR for it's inclusion on Cheetor, but not for List of Beast Machines characters; Image:BmOptimusRobot.jpg has a FUR for use on Optimus Primal, but not for List of Beast Machines characters; Image:Beast Machines Maximal Insignia.GIF has a fair-use rationale for use on Maximals, but not for use on List of Beast Machines characters. Do you see the pattern?
If you want these images to appear on List of Beast Machines characters, then the image page needs to include a fair-use rationale explaining its use specifically for that page. It's almost entirely a matter of copy-and-paste, simply replacing the individual character article's page with List of Beast Machines characters -- but it is a required step per WP:FAIRUSE. --EEMeltonIV 03:59, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OP disambig

Re. your last edit summary: picture is self-explanitory Apparently it isn't, since we disagree on how it meets the requirement that it aid in choosing between articles. Can you articulate an explanation for how it helps differentiate between the characters there? It seems to me a mass of characters, many of them too tiny to distinguish between. Do you have any thoughts about my earlier suggestions that a more appropriate image to include might be a shot of each of the three Optimus Primes mentioned, or my suggestion that your image might be more appropriate on the actual character pages? as is the fair-use rational [sic] There is no such thing a a "self-explanatory . . . fair-use rational[e]." See WP:FAIRUSE and WP:FURG. For each page on which an image appears, there needs to be a fair-use rationale. no further explantion is required This is not a particularly useful comment. I have tried to engage you on your talk page and on the article talk pages. Responding almost solely with edit summaries seems to demonstrate an unwillingness to discuss these edits, and is not a sign of good faith. --EEMeltonIV 05:32, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
