Requested moves is a process for requesting the retitling (moving) of an article, template, or project page on Wikipedia. For retitling files, categories and other items, see When not to use this page.

Please read the article titling policy and the guideline regarding primary topics before moving a page or requesting a page move.

Any autoconfirmed user can use the Move function to perform most moves (see Help:How to move a page). If you have no reason to expect a dispute concerning a move, be bold and move the page. However, it may not always be possible or desirable to do this:

  • Technical reasons may prevent a move; for example, a page may already exist at the target title and require deletion, or the page may be protected from moves. See: § Requesting technical moves.
  • Requests to revert recent, undiscussed, controversial moves may be made at WP:RM/TR. If the new name has not become the stable title, the undiscussed move will be reverted. If the new name has become the stable title, a requested move will be needed to determine the article's proper location.
  • A title may be disputed, and discussion may be necessary to reach consensus: see § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves. The requested moves process is not mandatory, and sometimes an informal discussion at the article's talk page can help reach consensus.
  • A page should not be moved and a new move discussion should not be opened when there is already an open move request on a talk page. Instead, please participate in the open discussion.
  • Unregistered and new (not yet autoconfirmed) users are unable to move pages.

Requests are generally processed after seven days. If consensus to move the page is reached at or after this time, a reviewer will carry out the request. If there is a consensus not to move the page, the request will be closed as "not moved". When consensus remains unclear, the request may be relisted to allow more time for consensus to develop, or the discussion may be closed as "no consensus". See Wikipedia:Requested moves/Closing instructions for more details on the process.

Wikipedia:Move review can be used to contest the outcome of a move request as long as all steps are followed. If a discussion on the closer's talk page does not resolve an issue, then a move review will evaluate the close of the move discussion to determine whether or not the contested close was reasonable and consistent with the spirit and intent of common practice, policies, and guidelines.

When not to use this page

Separate processes exist for moving certain types of pages, and for changes other than page moves:

Undiscussed moves

Autoconfirmed editors may move a page without discussion if all of the following apply:

  • No article exists at the new target title;
  • There has been no previous discussion about the title of the page that expressed any objection to a new title; and
  • It seems unlikely that anyone would reasonably disagree with the move.

If you disagree with a prior bold move, and the new title has not been in place for a long time, you may revert the move yourself. If you cannot revert the move for technical reasons, then you may request a technical move.

Move wars are disruptive, so if you make a bold move and it is reverted, do not make the move again. Instead, follow the procedures laid out in § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves.

Uncontroversial proposals

Only list here proposals that are clearly uncontroversial but require administrator help to complete (for example, spelling and capitalization fixes). Do not list a proposed page move in this section if there is any possibility that it could be opposed by anyone. Please list new requests at the bottom of the list and use {{subst:WP:RM2|Old page name|Requested name|Reason for move}} rather than copying previous entries. The template will automatically include your signature. No edits to the article's talk page are required.

If you object to a proposal listed here, please relist it in the #Incomplete and contested proposals section below.

Incomplete and contested proposals

If a requested move is incomplete (not all steps of the procedure are followed), or if there are reasonable objections to an "uncontroversial" proposal, it will be listed here until it is requested in full or five days pass. Upon completion of a request, please move the entry to the top of the "other proposals" section. Please place new entries at the top of this list, and sign (~~~~) or put a timestamp (~~~~~) at the end.

  • Physics of ComputationComputational Physics — Computational physics is a subfield in physics. Physics of computation is trying to say what a computational physicist does but it is really unnecessary. Physics of computation content should be just moved to computational physics. —Rsfontenot 06:19, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
This appears to be a merger request, not a move request. --Stemonitis 14:44, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

  • Call for Help (TV series)Call for Help — No need to disambiguate, but, in case you were thinking that it could possibly point to a lower-cased version, according to the official Wikipedia:Naming conventions, titles of articles should best reflect their real capitalization. "Convention: Do not capitalize second and subsequent words unless the title is a proper noun" The official style is to have the Call for Help at its proper-nouned (that's a word!) location, then disambiguated with a {{otheruses}} message at the top to point to the lowercase or (disambiguation) version. Furthermore, it has redirected to the TV show for Error: Need valid year, month, day months, many TechTV-related articles point there and no articles incorrectly point there that meant to point to the lowercase usage. This has not been contested as far as I can tell. —Wikibarista 02:02, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
Already contested here. Also, double redirects need cleanup. Dekimasuよ! 03:37, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

  • Miguel da Paz, Prince of AsturiasMiguel da Paz, Prince of Portugal and of Asturias —(Discuss)— Miguel da Paz, or Miguel de la Paz, was both a Portuguese, a Castilian and an Aragonese heir to the throne. Portugal and Spain (Castile and Aragon) were two independent sovereign nations, each with its own respective title used for the heir to the throne. Castile uses Prince of Asturias and Portugal uses Prince of Portugal, the other sons and daughters of Iberian monarchs are styled Infante or Infanta. Since Miguel da Paz was the eldest son of a Portuguese king, Manuel I of Portugal, and that he would become king of Portugal by a direct male line, and king of Castile and Aragon by a female indirect line, I think this article title should have at least his Prince of Portugal title. Other alternatives are Miguel da Paz, Prince of Portugal and Prince of Asturias or Miguel da Paz, Prince of Portugal and Asturias. —Joaopais 19:26, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
  • Afonso, Crown Prince of PortugalAfonso, Prince of Portugal —(Discuss)— I'm requesting this article to be renamed Afonso, Prince of Portugal, since there's is no official title named Crown Prince of Portugal. He was the heir to the throne, and used the title Prince of Portugal, reserved for the eldest son of the monarch, while his younger brothers and sisters used the titles Infante and/or Infanta. —Joaopais 18:33, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
  • Mount Vernon (plantation)Mount Vernon —(Discuss)— I've requested that this article be moved to Mount Vernon for three reasons. One this is a Presidential Home, much like Monticello and Sagamore Hill. Two, it is in line with other famous homes like the two previous, Graceland of Elvis Presley and Neverland Ranch of Michael Jackson for example. Three, Washington's estate is most likely the most requested search for that name. I moved the original Mount Vernon material to Mount Vernon (disambiguation), which is in line with many other cases of disambiguation pages. —Northmeister 04:45, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
  • Greater ColombiaGreat Colombia —(Discuss)— Incorrect and misleading translation of the original name.Implies more a irredentist cause of the actual republic of Colombia or a reclamation of territory by the Republic of Colombia, than the actual confederation of countries that it wass —Andres rojas22 16:30, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
  • Who Watches the Watchers?Who Watches the Watchers —(Discuss)— The text of the page reads: "The title of this episode is a translation of the Latin phrase "Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?", however the on-screen title did not end in a question mark," yet despite this there is a "?" at the end of the page title. Was ready to make the move myself, but there is a redirect page at the new location that points back to the original. —GoodnightmushTalk 13:43, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
  • Tabernacle (Judaism)Tabernacle —(Discuss)— The Tabernacle is as much a part of the history of Christianity as it is of the history of Judaism and a person searching for the word "Tabernacle" is most likely going to want this page —StAnselm 06:31, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
  • Toponymy of MexicoName of Mexico —(Discuss)— The "toponymy of Mexico" would be the general study of Mexican placenames, not the origin and usage of the word "Mexico" itself. I'm not strongly behind moving it to Name of Mexico specifically, just as long as it's somewhere other than where it is now, since currently it's misnamed. —Ptcamn 13:36, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
  • Pur lainePure laine —(Discuss)— As best I can tell, this is just a mistake. It would never be spelt pur laine in French because laine is feminine. In English, I don't know how common the pur laine form is. But my guess would be that whatever currency it has does not result from an established usage in English, but rather a common mistake. I suspect it is uncommon in carefully edited prose. The creator of the page felt that pur laine was the predominant form, however. —Joeldl 11:42, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
  • Odorheiu SecuiescSzékelyudvarhely —(Discuss)— An ethnic Hungarian settlement in Transylvania. According to the naming conventions, the current local name should be used, which is the Hungarian version. Examples: Swedish settlements in Finnland, or German speaking communities in South Tyrol —KIDB 17:32, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
    • I suggest leaving this open for a bit. Although there is clearly not a consensus to move the page, there is ongoing productive discussion on various compromise proposals. Dekimasuよ! 10:43, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
  • Relisting to allow time for consensus to form. --Stemonitis 07:33, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
  • AT&T Wireless LLCAT&T Mobility —(Discuss)— The current title of this article, AT&T Wireless LLC is of no factual pertinence to the legal name or the trade name of AT&T Mobility LLC. This page has been controversial because of the Cingular Wireless issue; however, as of May 6, 2007, AT&T Mobility newspaper ads are solely displaying the AT&T logo, with a "Formerly Cingular." disclaimer. The Cingular is now the new AT&T logo is not being used in these advertisements. Therefore, this page belongs at the appropriate title, AT&T Mobility. —KansasCity 00:24, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
  • A user has moved the article more than once during the ongoing discussion, resulting in a few things that are broken and an article that's not at either the original or the suggested title. Needs a look. Dekimasuよ! 03:33, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

Johnbod 15:47, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

  • Rudolf HößRudolf Höss —(Discuss)— ch to English spelling. Should be non-controversial, but may not be as some editors like the 'authenticity' of the German ligature. There seems to be a complicated set of redirects that I could not figure out. —Jd2718 12:57, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
