International reactions to the 2024 United States presidential election

Several reactions from governments, individuals, organizations, and multi-nation institutions around the world emerged for the re-election of Republican Donald Trump for the 2024 United States presidential election on 5 November 2024. Generally, most world governments congratulated Trump on his victory in the election.

States

• Afghanistan: The Taliban government's foreign ministry voiced hope that "the incoming U.S. administration will adopt a pragmatic approach to ensure tangible advancement in bilateral relations, allowing both nations to open a new chapter of relations grounded in mutual engagement."
• Argentina: President of Argentina Javier Milei congratulated Trump on his victory. He plans to visit the US and meet with Trump the day prior to his inauguration.
• Armenia: Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan congratulated Trump on his "impressive victory". In a letter he adressed to US President-elect Trump, Pashinyan emphasized the "unprecedented progress" that both countries have made in partnership and bilateral relations, and hopes that the cooperation between Armenia and the US will be "further strengthened" under Trump's leadership.
• Australia: Prime Minister of Australia Anthony Albanese congratulated Trump on Twitter for his victory. Opposition Leader Peter Dutton and former prime ministers Tony Abbott and Scott Morrison also congratulated Trump, as did many other Australian politicians. Greens leader Adam Bandt referred to it as "a bad day for America, a bad day for Australia, and a bad day for the world".
• Azerbaijan: President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev congratulated Trump. "The confident victory you gained in the elections is the clear reflection of a big support and confidence the friendly American people place in you personally and the political course you pursue," the head of state wrote in his letter of congratulations.
• Belarus: President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko congratulated Donald Trump on a victory in the latest presidential election in the United States of America. The congratulatory message reads: "From the bottom of my heart I congratulate you on resuming the office of the president of the United States of America. Results of the voting, which has been accompanied by unprecedented fighting this year, became an embodiment of your personal heroic feat. You've committed it primarily in the name of America and its citizens. I wish you strong health and smart political decisions that will make America great again."
• Belgium: Prime Minister of Belgium Alexander De Croo congratulated Trump on X (formerly Twitter), adding that Belgium is prepared to see the transatlantic relationship grow even stronger.
• Brazil: President of Brazil Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva congratulated Trump on X and called for "dialogue and joint work to achieve greater peace, development and prosperity", wishing him luck and success. Lula da Silva's comments come after having publicly supported Vice President of the United States Kamala Harris's presidential ticket prior to the election. Former President Jair Bolsonaro had issued a long statement congratulating Trump, calling him a "friend" and welcoming the resurgence of a "true warrior". Former Environment Minister Izabella Teixeira stated "there is no room for climate denialism" and calling American society "co-responsible for global warming" and to finding future solutions for it under the Second Trump Administration.
• Canada: Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau congratulated Trump, but stated that today's world was "an even more complicated place" than during Trump's first presidency, and assured his commitment to work with the Trump's administration "for the good of both countries".
• China: Spokesperson for the People's Republic of China's Foreign Ministry Mao Ning stated that the Chinese government respected the choice of the American people, and expressed the administration's desire for maintaining Chinese–United States bilateral relations with "mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and cooperation for win-win". Chinese leader Xi Jinping called Donald Trump on the day to congratulate the Republican victory.
• Colombia: President of Colombia Gustavo Petro congratulated Trump, but expressed concerns over his policies.
• Denmark: Prime Minister of Denmark Mette Frederiksen congratulated Trump and called for increase defense cooperation.
• Egypt: President of Egypt Abdel Fattah el-Sisi congratulated Trump on X.
• El Salvador: President of El Salvador Nayib Bukele congratulated Trump on X.

Wong cited that the relations are "mutually beneficial partnership" and looking forward for Trump to revisit Singapore soon since the 2018 North Korea–United States Singapore Summit. President of Singapore Tharman Shanmugaratnam also congratulated him, commenting Trump would "lead a nation in need of healing, and a people who must rediscover common purpose, despite their divisions", and wished to "achieve our mutual interests".

Von der Leyen said that the EU and the United States are "more than allies" and encouraged for a "strong transatlantic relationship". Metsola emphasized "Europe's readiness to cooperate in tackling the many global challenges ahead", while Michel called for "continuing our constructive cooperation."
