Simon Boas (born 1977) was a British aid worker and writer. He grew up in London and Winchester. At the age of 16 he delivered his first humanitarian aid convoy to Bosnia, and went on to spend his career working for development charities and the United Nations (UN). He worked in Africa for many years, and lived in Vietnam, Egypt, Turkey, Nepal, India, and the Palestinian Territories, including three years running a UN office in the Gaza Strip. He spent his last eight years living in Jersey, running the island’s overseas aid agency.[1]

In 2023, Boas was diagnosed with terminal throat cancer. He wrote several articles about his diagnosis and approach to life. He said: "What I'm trying to convey is how enjoying life to the full kind of prepares you for this."

In May 2024 he was awarded the Bailiff of Jersey's silver seal.[2]

Death

Boas died on 15 July 2024.[3] His book, A Beginner's Guide to Dying, was published posthumously in September 2024.[4][5][6][7]
