Antoine Tayar
Antoine Tayar is a Canadian public official[1] of Lebanese descent[2]. He won the municipal council position in the Town of Mount Royal, Quebec, in the 2021 municipal elections[3]. He is currently the acting mayor of the town[4]. In this role, Tayar oversees local governance, works on policy initiatives, and engages with community stakeholders[5]. His responsibilities include representing the interests of residents, participating in municipal decision-making, and collaborating with provincial authorities to address the town's needs.[6]
Early Life & Education
Antoine Tayar was born in Chyah, a suburb of Mount Lebanon, south of Beirut. The Lebanese Civil War impacted his early life, leading to multiple relocations before his family settled in Baabda. Following his father's death when he was 15, Tayar supported his mother and sisters while continuing his education through part-time jobs, including tutoring.
He graduated in 1985 with two baccalaureates: one in Experimental Sciences from the Lebanese curriculum and another in Philosophy from the French Baccalaureate. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Public Administration from the American University of Beirut and completed a Master of Arts in Political Science at St. Joseph University in Lebanon. Additionally, Tayar has earned various certificates in leadership, corporate communication, public relations, crisis management, and social media strategy.
Professional Career
Antoine Tayar began his career at the Lebanese Center for Policy Studies as a Public Relations Manager and Research Associate, where he worked on seminars and publications involving government officials and media.
In 1993, he joined Impact BBDO, became Regional Account Director, managed campaigns, and established a public relations department. He also worked on marketing initiatives such as J&B’s environmental campaigns.
Tayar joined The Coca-Cola Company in 2000, taking on roles in public affairs for the Near East and Middle East regions, where he was involved in sustainability programs, crisis communications, and government relations in 12 countries. In 2015, he relocated to Canada to oversee public affairs for Quebec and the Atlantic provinces.
In 2019, Tayar joined Juul Labs as Regional Government Affairs Director for Canada, focusing on vaping regulations and media communications in Quebec.
In 2022, he founded ATpublic, a consultancy offering public affairs services, corporate communications, and regulatory engagement.
