P. Lal is an Indian author and a contributor of articles to newspapers. He has authored six books and contributed 120 articles to various newspapers, primarily writing 'middles' for editorial pages. He is also a retired Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Punjab cadre. His first article, "Bomb in a Basket," appeared in The Tribune on July 28, 1992. Since then, he has maintained his interest in writing and honed his skills.
Early life and family
P. Lal was born on October 30, 1946, in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, India. His father, Bishun Narain, was a gazetted officer in the Government of Uttar Pradesh. Lal received his education in Uttar Pradesh, mainly in Lucknow. He is married to Geeta Lal, and they have a daughter named Purnima Lal. They reside in Chandigarh, India.
Education and schooling
P. Lal earned a Master of Science (Physics) and a Bachelor of Science (Honours) from Lucknow University, Uttar Pradesh in 1966 and 1965, respectively. He was appointed as a Lecturer in the Physics Department of Lucknow University at the age of 20, where he taught graduate and postgraduate classes from 1966 to 1969 before joining the Indian Police Service.
Writing and literary
P. Lal has authored six books and contributed 120 articles, including 91 'middles,' to established and reputed newspapers such as The Tribune, Hindustan Times, and Daily World. His last three books—Gift of Life,[1] River Saraswati and the Aryans,[2] and Hindu, Hinduism and Hindutva-Bharat a Sanatana Rashtra[3]—form a trilogy that examines ideas from ancient Indian texts and modern science and technology. These books attempt to fuse, synthesize, and reconcile these ideas, prioritizing reason and rationality in case of conflict.
His opinion pieces cover a wide range of subjects, including the Indian Constitution, conflicts between the Central Bureau of Investigation and state police, terrorism, corruption in public services, and scientific perspectives on the concept of God. His 'middles' explore various aspects of human behavior, emotions, actions, and reactions.
All six books by P. Lal have been launched by the highest dignitaries of Indian states, including Governors. The forewords of these books have been written by eminent individuals, and the books have received wide publicity and public acclaim.
