Vakhnevo (Template:Lang-ru) is a rural locality (a village) and the administrative center of Vakhnevskoye Rural Settlement, Nikolsky District, Vologda Oblast, Russia. The population was 175 as of 2002.[2]

Geography

Vakhnevo is located 37 km northwest of Nikolsk (the district's administrative centre) by road. Turino is the nearest rural locality.[3]

Paleontology

Fossils of temnospondyl amphibians Benthosuchus sushkini (one specimen is also assigned to Rhinesuchus wolgo-dwinensis) and Thoosuchus sp. were found in Lower Triassic (Lower Olenekian) deposits of Vakhnevo.[4] A specimen of reptiliomorph Dromotectus spinosum (sic) is also known from these deposits.[4]
