"Not Strong Enough" is a song by American indie rock band Boygenius (stylized in all lowercase). It was released on March 1, 2023 by Interscope Records as the second single from their debut album The Record.[1] "Not Strong Enough" performed well on alternative and rock charts, hitting number one on the US Adult Alternative Airplay. [2]
It received nominations for Record of the Year, Best Rock Song, and Best Rock Performance at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards.[3]
Background and composition
According to sheet music published at Musicnotes.com by Kobalt Music Publishing, "Not Strong Enough" is set in common time at a tempo of 126 beats per minute. It is composed in the key of D-flat major.[4] The song's chorus alludes to the Sheryl Crow song "Strong Enough".[5]
Music video
Boygenius released a music video for "Not Strong Enough" alongside its release as a single on March 1, 2023. The video shows the band spending a day together around Los Angeles County, visiting the Santa Monica Pier, the Getty Villa, and Sherman Oaks Castle Park before ending the day at Dockweiler State Beach. The video was shot by the band on Bridgers' iPhone and edited by her brother Jackson.
Live performances
Boygenius performed "Not Strong Enough" along with the album track "Satanist" on Saturday Night Live on November 11, 2023.[6]
