The journey |
The journey started, when Ashish Hemrajani, then an employee of [[J. Walter Thompson]] went on a backpacking holiday to South Africa. |
||
During his trip |
During his trip, he heard a radio commercial promoting online tickets for a rugby game. The rugby commercial proved to be the ‘Eureka!’ moment for Ashish and he sensed potential in an online entertainment ticketing model in India, thereby solving a problem that millions of Indians faced standing in long queues for hours to buy movie tickets, sometimes unsuccessfully. Along with his college friends Parikshit Dar and Rajesh Balpande, Ashish then went on to create Big Tree Entertainment Pvt. Ltd (parent company). an ode to the tree under which he was sitting when he got this idea<ref>{{Cite journal|date=20 September 2019|title=How a Newton-apple moment in South Africa led Ashish Hemrajani to start BookMyShow|url=https://theprint.in/pageturner/excerpt/how-a-newton-apple-moment-in-south-africa-led-ashish-hemrajani-to-start-bookmyshow/292349/|journal=[[The Print]]}}</ref>. |
||
In 2000, when multiplexes and large cinema chains started entertaining Indian audiences, the company took the first steps towards digitising the movies entertainment ecosystem with a focus on software enterprise resource planning and a global distribution system for venues with a dedicated software. |

History and Timeline
1999 - 2006
The journey started, when Ashish Hemrajani, then an employee of J. Walter Thompson went on a backpacking holiday to South Africa.
Ltd (parent company). an ode to the tree under which he was sitting when he got this idea[5].
In 2000, when multiplexes and large cinema chains started entertaining Indian audiences, the company took the first steps towards digitising the movies entertainment ecosystem with a focus on software enterprise resource planning and a global distribution system for venues with a dedicated software.
However, the founders could not sustain the fledgling venture after the dotcom bust between 2001-2002. During this period, the company scaled down its operations offering technology solutions that enabled customer relationship management and shrunk the overall team strength from 150 to 6 employees[6]. The next four years were spent in shaping back the team and the firm, re-building technology one step at a time.
2007 - 2016
In March 2007, Network18 (now owned by Reliance Industries Limited) invested in the company to launch India's first online entertainment ticketing aggregator platform.
