Template:WikiProject Wimpy Kid

I'd rather this page not get deleted again. I'm working on making it better than the old one, with ALL of the characters included. E.B. (talk) 21:52, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal

I think we should merge Greg Heffley into this article because this article lists all of the characters, including Greg. If we include all of the information in the Greg Heffley article here, it will be easier to access. If the page is merged, I will put a redirect to this page on the Greg Heffley article. E.B. (talk) 02:41, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't really think it should be merged.66.99.23.194 (talk) 19:56, 8 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Heh

It's nice to see how far this page has come since I made it. E.B. (talk) 07:28, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The movie

The page isn't so bad, but just watch out for spelling errors, because I just found some (which I already edited). Also, instead of putting "He/She does not appear in the movie" for almost all of the characters, can we just put "He/She appears in the movie" for the ones that do appear? 74.46.30.192 (talk) 21:38, 2 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Greg's mother or Susan?

I have noticed that Greg's mom is constantly being referred to as 'Susan' and occasionally his father as 'Frank'. I know that these are their first names, but why can't they be called 'Greg's mother/father'? For some reason calling them by their first names seems a little weird to me. --Letsy2 (talk) 06:01, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Just stick with calling them Frank and Susan, OK?--CegaLEGOlog99! 18:42, 12 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Extremely Minor Characters

After staring at this article for a long amount of time, I've decided that there are many characters listed that don't belong there at all. These include:

  • The Whirley Street Kids
  • Lenwood Heath
  • David Nester
  • Archie Kelly
  • Bill Walter
  • Ward
  • Scotty Douglas
  • Mr. Warren
  • Bryce Anderson
  • Larry Larkin
  • Mrs. Canfield
  • Leon Ricket
  • Jeremy Pindle
  • Fregley's Mother
  • Mr. Gupta
  • Killer
  • Nutty
  • Darren Walsh
  • Aunt Loretta
  • Aunt Lydia
  • Aunt Brenda
  • Uncle Gary
  • Rowley's Grandfather
  • And most of Greg's teachers

I have come to the idea that these characters certainly do not belong here because they have either only appeared once in the series, not at all (only mentioned), or have no major role in the plot. Since I am sure that if I just go and delete all of these sections somebody will panic and put them all back, I will wait for several people to comment on this. Thank you. Letsy2 (talk) 11:04, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think they should be kept for the reader's interest. Maybe you should merge related characters?--Cegalegolog99 (talk) 16:32, 20 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The bottom line is that we need to let the RS sources define what we write. If the minor characters are acknowledged in RS sources writing about the books then they get included. If not then we can't write anything verifiable about them anyway and we should leave them out. I would also add that lists like this are often a magnet for vandals. It is so easy for them to sneak in a made-up character and not have anybody notice for a while. This is why verifiability matters. --DanielRigal (talk) 17:17, 20 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I actually didn't wait for several people to comment and removed some of these characters from the list. Sorry about that. [laughs nervously] Letsy2 (talk) 18:01, 20 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is getting awkward

Why? Only characters in SOME sections are being deleted. The main exceptions are main characters (duh), secondary characters, and Rowley's family. The only secondary exception is Greg's teachers.--Cegalegolog99 (talk) 00:54, 28 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

New section?

Instead of deleting the minor characters in the Secondary Characters section, how about putting all of those characters in a NEW section called Minor Characters. Lenwood Heath, however, should stay in the Secondary Characters section.--Cegalegolog99 (talk) 00:54, 28 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Take that back, take that back. This is getting awkward enough, and I don't want it getting more awkward. I like the article (except for its awkwardness) the way it is.--Cegalegolog99 (talk) 14:48, 28 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Now the unimportant characters ARE deleted. Good.--CegaLEGOlog99! 17:15, 28 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Greg Heffley article

Why did the Greg Heffley article get deleted? Since he's the main character, shouldn't he get his own article, like Phineas Flynn or Bart Simpson.

--24.188.236.175 (talk) 22:28, 19 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Even though Greg is the main character of the Wimpy Kid series, there honestly isn't enough about him to write a full article for him. If you compare the articles on Phineas and Bart to the one that there had been on Greg, you would probably be able to see that the latter was much less detailed and not as well written. One paragraph for him here is enough. Letsy2 (talk) 23:15, 19 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
There was disagreement about whether the character was notable enough for an article anyway but the real problem was that the article was full of unsourced personal interpretations. There was nothing in it worth saving. I still think that a short but decent article could probably be written but it would have to be scrupulously sourced from reliable sources, not just people's own interpretations. Once all the professional reviews of the film are out then there should be plenty of source material. That said, a section in the characters article serves the same purpose just as well.
You can read the complete deletion discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Greg Heffley. --DanielRigal (talk) 23:22, 19 March 2010 (UTC)\[reply]

Okay, then. So no Greg Heffley article. But can we at least include an image? --J.Severe (talk) 17:31, 20 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Rowley section overflowing with detail

The Rowley Jefferson section is unusual because it has a bunch of minor details. That is one of only two sections that have the intricate-detail problem. The other is Rowley's dad. Please remove unnecessary info. It's better for all sections to have fairly general information than for all to be overflowing with detail. Just don't make the info TOO general. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cegalegolog99 (talkcontribs) 00:17, 20 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Don't you think the intricate detail problem is fixed know? :-)--Cegalegolog99 (talk) 01:03, 24 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wait a minute. Those queries were way back when I was a n00b. I've noticed that the minor character sections have more relative detail than the main character sections. That's OK, isn't it?--CegaLEGOlog99! 13:12, 28 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Last names (especially Fregley's!)

Don't add last or middle names of characters unless you're 100% sure. Remember when someone added Fregley's last name? Since that guy said Fregley's last name is Spundervick, that is probably vandalism. Fregley's last name has never been mentioned in the books, and probably won't be mentioned in the movie. If it is ever, it probably won't be Spundervick.

The statement that Angie's last name is Steadman might also be vandalism. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cegalegolog99 (talkcontribs) 01:55, 24 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Just recently, someone said that Fregley's last name is Farley. Did that appear at the bottom of the list? If so, please tell me. If not, erase it.--Cegalegolog99 (talk) 15:06, 28 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Angie's last name? THAT last name was probably not recognized as vandalism. Maybe it's mentioned in the movie?--Cegalegolog99 (talk) 15:06, 28 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

OK, so Angie's last name is right, Fregley's is wrong.--Cegalegolog99 (talk) 11:42, 7 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is no longer a problem.~Wimpy Fanboy t g 23:47, 2 July 2010 (UTC) (formerly Cegalegolog99)[reply]

"Zoo-Wee Mama!"

The Zoo-Wee Mama! info should be kept because it is an important part of how Greg and Rowley grew apart in the 1st book. Any other minor information we should keep? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cegalegolog99 (talkcontribs) 22:54, 27 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Angie

If the movie plot section was expaded, why isn't the Angie section expanded? You can expand that section if you watched the movie. Also note that her real name might be Angela. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cegalegolog99 (talkcontribs) 00:37, 28 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I expanded it.--Cegalegolog99 (talk) 01:23, 7 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Trim this down!!

I saw this article, and I realized it was WAY too long. Perhaps there are some characters that need to be removed? Railer-man (talk) 21:18, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Kinda what I thought, but nobody really agreed with me.... --Letsy2Talk 19:25, 3 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I don't agree with you, either.~Wimpy Fanboy t g 23:33, 7 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Overall

Overall, I'd rate this page a "C+". Here's a few suggested improvements:

  • Detail
  • Images
  • Clarity
  • Neutrality
  • Layout (which I improved)

Semi-protection

I think this article should be semi-protected, shouldn't it?~Wimpy Fanboy t g 23:45, 2 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm so inexperienced that I don't know how it's done, but yes, I think it should be. Quite a bit of vandalism going on here since the series is pretty popular. --Letsy2Talk 19:21, 3 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You're right, Letsy2. Hey, does anyone know how to semi-protect an article? %-( ~Wimpy Fanboy t g 14:46, 4 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I did some research, and found that only admins can.:-( That should be done to ALL Wimpy Kid articles.~Wimpy Fanboy t g 20:59, 5 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm...actually I was also poking around to find more about page protection, and what I read didn't really make it sound like only admins could do that stuff. I think I'll try asking somebody... --Letsy2Talk 04:46, 6 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Rewrite

I strongly believe this page needs a complete rewrite. I fixed a lot of huge errors with run-ons and associated things, but it's still hard to read through and understand. Anyone agree? Cyan Ryan(talk) 07:59, 13 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Way too much detail

C'mon, people. This list doesn't need a giant paragraph for each character. We only need 2-4 sentences per paragraph. This is not Wimpy Kid Wikia or something. ~Wimpy Fanboy chit-chat? sign mine! 00:46, 17 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Doing... I've been working on that. MathMaven (talk | edits) 13:54, 15 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Serious problems

This list quality dropped down from C+ to D. Here's a list of the problems:

  1. Most importantly, there is WAY too much detail. No one other than a fan would like to know so much. Please do not put trivia.
  2. Also, there are way too many minor characters who weren't at all important in the story. This is basically a tributary to the first.
  3. Number three, there isn't enough references, so no one can be sure it's right. (Note to smart alecks: Please don't give exceptions.)
  4. Number four, I know agree with Cyan Ryan's comment about the rewrite. This page; as it is, as of November 13, 2010; is really not Wikipedia-appropriate. It needs a total rewrite.
  5. Number five, the grammar is horrible. I need to (somewhat exhaustingly) edit it over and over and over again.
  6. Sixth of all, stay away from words like "perhaps" and "maybe". These inferences about characters are plausible but not plausible enough.

P.S. Compare this list to the list of SpongeBob SquarePants characters.
