Indian Institute of Management, Shillong (also known as IIM Shillong or IIMS) has been set up amidst the lush green surroundings of the Khasi hills in Shillong, known as the Scotland of the East. The foundation course on sustainability is carried out for the incoming batch every year, to stimulate the students to think in this direction,even before their formal management course begins. Hostel
There are both single and double occupancy rooms available for the students. Besides the basic amenities of a cot, mattress, room heater, study table and chair in every room, the dormitories are connected with state of the art Wireless Mesh Network (WMN). There is also a common reading room; common recreation room equipped with table-tennis, carom, and television facilities. A gymnasium, basketball and badminton court are also present inside the campus.
Academics
IIM Shillong currently offers a two-year Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) and plans to offer other courses like the Fellow Program in Management (FPM) in the future. In addition, the institute offers Management Development Programmes (MDPs) along with Research and Consultancy. IIMS lays special emphasis on sustainability in its curriculum with thrust on developing sustainable business models.
PGP
The institute offers a two year Post Graduate Diploma in Management. This is a fully residential program with a unique curriculum comprising of a mix of compulsory courses and electives, supplemented by specialized courses on industry sectors. The institute aims to develop thought leaders for an economically and ecologically sustainable society. Students are offered subjects from the areas of finance, economics, human resources, marketing, operations, information technology management and general management. All the students of PGP undergo a summer internship during the months of April-June. The students are offered a foundation course on sustainability which instils in the participants a sense of appreciation and develops the vision of a sustainable enterprise.Also, various novel and unique initiatives such as a pioneering sports management programme have been launched by IIM Shillong.[3][4][5]
MDP
IIM Shillong conducts special short duration Management Development Programmes for executives from the industry, education and government sectors. The objective of MDP is to help the participants broaden their knowledge base and acquaint themselves with the contemporary trends in management. These programs are conducted in the IIM Shillong campus as well as in some major cities in India.
Publications - IIMS Journal of Management Science
The institute publishes a peer reviewed bi-annual management science journal. The aim of the journal is to provide a platform for researchers, practitioners, academicians and professionals from diverse domains of management to share innovative research achievements and practical experiences on topics having substantial management content. The Journal is dedicated to publish high quality research papers providing meaningful insights into the various subject areas.

Admissions
Admissions to the PGP program of IIM Shillong take place through the Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted by the IIMs every year. A two fold selection process is followed wherein candidates are shortlisted through their CAT scores and the final selection is done on the basis of performance in interviews and group discussions. The institute lays significant emphasis on consistent academic performance and overall profile of the candidate.
CEDNER
The Centre for Development of North Eastern Region (CEDNER) was constituted right from the inception of the institute. It is involved in organizing both short and long term programmes relevant to the local community of the region. The Centre offers a unique opportunity for young entrepreneurs, businessmen, business executives and officers of the region for the development of their business and various entrepreneurial activities.
Some of the programmes offered by CEDNER so far include Retail Management, Sports Management, Business Skill for Small Businesses, Effective Management and Entrepreneurial Development. IIMS through CEDNER has successfully created a highly stimulating environment for the business community of North East India and proposes to continue with the endeavour.Recently, it has launched a Health and Hospital Management Programme for six months.[7]

The first batch of 63 students were placed in 32 companies with a total of 68 offers, including international offers[8]. The placement process is aided by the use of video-conferencing, which is instrumental for foreign placements. International recruiters included Tolaram Group, 3i Infotech, Adani Group and Jumbo Electronics. Top recruiters included HSBC, DE Shaw, Suzlon Energy, Essar Group, GATI, Deloitte, PWC, Frost and Sullivan, Zee Interactive, Biocon, Godfrey Philips India, Pfizer,MakeMyTrip, Infosys, IBM Daksh, HCL Escorts group etc.
Internships
Various companies like KPMG, Mycel, MakeMyTrip, Siemens and GE Capital, Eveready, GATI, Nielson, Hughes Communication, Adobe, Deutsche Bank, HSBC Bank, Axis Bank, UTI Asset Management, IL&FS, ING Vysya and Milagrow and start-up companies like Brands of Desire and Quetzal offered a wide variety of profiles in the fields of finance, marketing, logistics, IT consulting etc.

Clubs
IT Club – BiteSys as it is known, focuses on the development of pan – IIM IT infrastructure and development of IT infrastructure in the north-east by undertaking live IT consulting projects.
Consulting Club – ConQuest, the consulting club, aims to provide its members with consulting projects and challenges that will equip them in successfully tackling future assignments in the corporate world. For this, the club conducts strategy games, case study competitions and consulting quizzes amongst the students and also comes up with periodic industry updates. The club’s efforts are also directed towards arranging a platform for club members to interact and network with consultants for real-time knowledge and experience.
Entrepreneurship Cell - I-Cube as it is popularly known, promotes the spirit of entrepreneurship among young managers. The club focuses on keeping its members abreast of the current market trends and innovations. Its efforts are also concentrated towards building a strong network with venture capitalists and corporate houses in order to give shape to its business ideas.
Finance Club – This club is primarily for the finance enthusiasts among PGP participants. Niveshak[9] is the monthly finance magazine released by the finance club. The magazine was opened to all the B-school students with free subscription. It is widely circulated among the top B-schools of India and corporate houses.
Marketing Club – The club is for students who are interested in the area of marketing. Its monthly magazine Markathon is one of the most popular B-school Marketing Magazines of India. It aims to integrate academia and industry and create an intellectual capital that will become an epitome of marketing wisdom.
Operations Club – This club provides a platform for those who are looking to make a career in the field of operations. Apart from the above interest groups, students are also actively involved in administrative activities through various committees. Cultural Committee - The cultural committee brings to life the celebration of festivals in addition to conducting competitions and events.
HR Club – usHR is the HR club of IIM Shillong. Its efforts are driven towards giving its members an insight into HR through the eyes of HR managers in industry.
Committees
Alumni Committee – The committee strives to ensure a constant connection with the alumni. It hopes to play a pivotal role in bringing together the alumni spread across the globe, the institute & the students of IIM S in the coming years.
Hostel Committee - The hostel committee is involved in planning the infrastructure development such as expansion of hostel facilities and outdoor games facilities in the current campus.
IT Committee - The IT Committee takes care of the IT requirements of the institute as well as that of its students. The committee was actively involved in the planning & implementation for setting up the ERP solution in institute.
Placement Committee - The Placement Committee is a dedicated student body which strives to enhance the industry interaction and works closely with all stakeholders to provide a perfect launch pad for the students of IIM Shillong. The committee also facilitates the process of obtaining suitable summer project assignments with corporates.
Public Relations Cell - Public Relations Cell of IIM Shillong creates, develops and manages professional relations between all external entities and IIM Shillong.
Annual Magazine Committee- This committee is responsible for Symphony, the annual magazine of IIM Shillong. It was started to carry forward the tradition of budding managers penning down their thoughts for a greater cause. It provides a holistic view that includes all aspects of management studies, covering most of the sectors to give a thorough overview of issues relating to domestic and international importance. It also gives a snapshot of all the student activities that have taken place over the academic year.
Life at IIM Shillong
Amidst the sprawling lush green campus and surrounding scenic beauty, there is a constant frenzy and excitement amongst its close-knit students who are always trying to make a difference to the world around them. Heated discussions on case studies and intriguing arguments in classes sets the mood for the day. In the evenings, the students switch gears in pursuit of their passions ranging from playing the guitar to capturing the splendor of the mountainous terrain.
Those rare long weekends provide an opportunity for students to efficiently exploit the scenic beauty engulfing them, as they make small trips to the surrounding unexplored pockets of the country. Breath-taking waterfalls, pristine caves, placid crystal clear lakes, thick verdant woods with exotic flora and fauna - the place offers students, a heady mix of tourist attractions. A host of activities inside the campus ranging from talent nights, celebrations during festive occasions, frequent impromptu intra college events, weekly personality development programs conducted by the student body and the unforgettable birthday celebrations help the students break the monotony from academia.
Golf Cup
The 1st IIM Shillong Golf Cup was conducted in April 2009 at the Shillong Golf Club. It is the first golf tournament organized by any B school in India. This unique concept aims at connecting corporate and academia. An entirely student driven initiative, the tournament aims to create a platform wherein the budding managers compete with the corporate leaders in the beautiful and serene surroundings of Shillong. Esteemed dignitaries and high profile decision makers from leading international and national corporate houses take part in the tournament along with faculty, alumni and students of leading B Schools.
The tournament spans two days and is held in the prestigious golf course of the Shillong Golf Club. The first day sees action between B-schools and the second day showcases the most anticipated showdown between B-schools and corporate houses. Besides the golf tournament, IIM Shillong organizes a golf workshop titled ‘Green Jacket’ for B-School students where the participants get comprehensive training from professional golf trainers.
The second edition drew participation from the top B-schools of India and leading corporate houses such as ONGC, Goodricke Group Ltd, Apeejay Group, PricewaterhouseCoopers & Vodafone. The title sponsor for the event was Times of India. It is said that golf is a game that builds business relationships. The IIM Shillong golf cup is one such platform where budding managers and corporate can come together, share joyous moments & their experiences.
