Etymology

Borrowed from Polish piżmo (musk), from Old Czech pižmo (musk), from Old High German bisamo, from Medieval Latin bisamum, from Hebrew בֹּשֶׂם (bṓśem, perfume). For one popular use of the plant is to burn it for fumigation; even bees are smoked with it for pacification.
