- File:Quicktime X Logo.png (delete | talk | history | logs) – uploaded by JohnHWiki (notify | contribs | uploads).
This image lacks valid source information and is possibly fake. The image source information referred me to http://apple.com/quicktime. I did not find this logo there. Instead, I found this and this.
Even if this image is not fake, it lacks valid source information which makes it a valid candidate of speedy deletion with a {{di-no source}} tag.
Fleet Command (talk) 11:12, 10 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]- Replace with current logo. The version we show is not faked; it is displayed in the Dock on my Mac, for instance (which has QuickTime 10.0 installed). But Apple have a history of frequently changing the Quicktime logo,[1] and the one we have no longer seems to be their latest version. I presume the source link was a valid source at the time it was uploaded, so I don't think that rationale for speedy deletion applies. We should replace it with the current logo instead. We should also try to follow Apple's guidelines on its use, such as including a surrounding black square and the text "QuickTime" in their preferred typeface below the icon. --Avenue (talk) 21:21, 15 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I see. Then you say this logo is in fact the icon of QuickTime X? The one that comes with Mac OS X?
As for the source link: No. It has always been wrong. I'm a constant visitor of Apple QuickTime web site (since my administrative responsibilities often require me to download and install QuickTime on PCs) and I have never seen this icon there. But naturally, QuickTime X is different product than the normal QuickTime ... or so the article says. But I think deletion can be avoided by only changing the Source info...
Since I do not have a Mac OS X and cannot verify the status of this file, I leave it to someone who has one to either update the icon and/or its source info. The fact that your source shows a pink logo rather than blue bothers me. Fleet Command (talk) 05:00, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- The icon on my Mac does have a blue background. But I've checked another Mac, and it shows the same icon as on Apple's website. So it is not as simple as QuickTime X just having a different icon. Anyway, I think it would be best to replace our current file with the one on Apple's website, following their guidelines, and I'm happy to do that if that's the consensus here. --Avenue (talk) 00:16, 17 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, actually, I read the article thoroughly and realized that QuickTime X (which runs only on Mac OS X Snow Leopard) and the classic QuickTime (which runs on Windows older Mac) are actually different products which are being developed side by side. It was the infobox which tricked me into thinking that they are the same thing. (Was the second Mac, which you checked for verification, a Mac OS X 10.6?) So, I went ahead and split the infobox into two. I've already uploaded the icon for the classic QuickTime.
As for this icon:
- If you think this icon is an accurate reproduction of what you see on your Mac OS X, let it be and just update the source infomation. (You're going to need to change the {{non-free logo}} into {{non-free icon}}).
- If you think there is a reason for updating the icon, please proceed. I myself cannot possibly consent or deny a consensus about the update without seeing it first, so I'm just going to assume good faith. We can always discuss icon problems in its talk page.
- The guide to which you give a link belongs to the classic QuickTime (which is distributable), not QuickTime X (which is not distributable), so you may safely disregard it.
- I found this: [2]. I guess the nomination can safely be considered withdrawn. Fleet Command (talk) 07:18, 17 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Thanks for that link. I've added it as a source in the non-free use justification. You're right about the distinction between classic QuickTime and QuickTime X, which I had overlooked. One of the machines I looked at was running Snow Leopard; the other was not. -- Avenue (talk) 09:37, 17 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

- Keep - JenniCam represents a turning point in media history. Thus, it's important to convey how this website was viewed by guests who saw the "life online" subtitle and a polished graphic design. It also serves to clarify that JenniCam was something quite different from the many sites pushing sexual images. Pepso2 (talk) 02:37, 11 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

- Used for identification purposes. She is a living person; a free image is obtainable. We don't need to use a still from her site to illustrate what she looks like. ÷seresin 18:09, 10 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep - As noted in rationale, the "context" is very relevant here. It shows how her image was transmitted, which is quite different from a pic simply used for identification. Pepso2 (talk) 22:26, 10 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

- Keep (1) Jenni is no longer a public figure, so should not be stalked for her image. (2) The image is not just used for identification, but shows how she presented herself in the one activity for which she is notable. A random photo snatched on the street would not achieve the same encyclopedic function. Jheald (talk) 19:40, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep largely per Jheald - this is not a replaceable image as the article is not just about the person, but about the person and the website, and so an image that illustrates both is required for the article. Even if the website were not defunct, it is unlikely that a free image would be obtainable. While I'm not certain we need all of the non-free images, whether we do or do not and, if we do not need all, which images we do need, should not be decided in individual deletion discussions but in a single discussion that compares the images.
