Spanish vowels

edit

My apologies if I came out too harsh on the issue of Spanish tense/lax vowels. I'm just an amateur "linguist" and I've worked under the assumption that this phonetic contrast was well-established, based on conversations with other people, but after researching around it seems that it's not. There are some works about a correlation between tenseness and open syllables in several major dialects; in others stress is also correlated; some say that there's free variation, and many sources simply state that all Spanish vowels are equal in all contexts and in all dialects (thought that's surely wrong). Argentine Spanish is mentioned as having a correlation between open/checked syllables and tense/lax realization of vowels; in Andalusian there's a well-known phenomenon where the plural is marked by making the last vowel lax (as expected when the plural was marked by adding -s, but that final consonant is elided). Since the issue is not clear and you do have good sources to back you up, feel free to correct what I changed — though if you have access to good material I'd like to know if you find anything on the contrary. Thanks for your patience. —Pablo D. Flores (Talk) 14:22, 13 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hello Guifa, I'm not a new user even though my contributions are a little bit poor. I only wrote some useful and brief articles on Uruguayan geography, most of which were read by native speakers and corrected in the way they considered more appropriate. My aim is to keep in touch with people from USA, UK, Canada and other English-speaking countries. As you may notice I'm a Spanish native speaker, born and raised in Uruguay, South America but living in Catalonia, Spain (near the border with Andorra and France). Among my interests are American and English literature, language, American culture and geography, etc. I study English linguistics at college, in order to become a teacher someday..ah.. and by the way, I'm 20 years old. In the Spanish wikipedia, I wrote a large list of American authors from Beecher Stowe, Douglass, Chopin, Smith, Garrison Lloyd and Bradstreet to Rowlandson (most of them are translated from English into Spanish). Right now, I'm writing about Canadian territories and provinces, and about the American State of Idaho. William Shakespeare is the most important I've ever written before, and also has a star :) Well, that's all for now and sorry if you report some terrible spelling mistakes (sometimes I don't know how to write or in which way I should do it). I hope you can help me in my stay and let me feel comfortable in this wonderful experience, being my second place in wikipedia (after the Spanish one) and my third home. Kind regards,--Gustavo86 02:52, 25 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Texas in the South

edit

Hi, I was just wondering what your opinion on Texas being part of the South is. There has been some debate about this; 86% of Texans consider themselves Southerners, and Texas was part of the Confederacy, but many non-Texans group Texas with the Southwest. If we can get the opinions of people from the Deep South about Texas, it would help. Thanks! --Stallions2010 19:53, 2 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:The Changelings Band Photo.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? BlueAzure (talk) 22:25, 14 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi, you are the creator of this svg. can you expand the timeline with new years? todolist:

  • tim berners-lee is an e to excessive
  • make links to the wp-arctiles
  • remove flash lite (is no markup language!)
  • add html5 and an arrow to the end (xhtml don't replace html!)

that would be really good. thx mabdul 0=* 19:03, 24 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Unreferenced BLPs

edit

Hello Guifa! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 193 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

Hola!
