Sources
editWhile this article is no doubt accurate, it is poorly sourced. These should not be hard to find. I am working on it.Gonne Yeats (talk) 22:00, 10 August 2013 (UTC)

Better picture
editI'm sure there's a better image of Lane than the cover of Mousehunt. Can someone change it? BethEnd 03:22, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
I could get a better picture but I don't know how to put it up
Walk of Fame
editThis article states that Lane and Matthew Broderick were awarded a joint star; in actuality, they were both awarded their own adjacent stars in a joint ceremony. Check the List of stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame or this image from imdb.com for verification (I know it's hard to see the names on the stars in that image but you can tell they have their own separate stars). I'm changing this article to reflect that. --AMK1211 05:24, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
Copyright violation
editThough wikified, virtually all, if not all, of the Career section is taken verbatim from [1] which is not consistent with Wikipedia's copyright policy. See Wikipedia:Copyright FAQ. I placed the article on Wikipedia:Copyright_problems/2006_July_14/Articles. --WayneMokane 22:36, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
- Then why not zap that section entirely but leave the rest?
- I corrected the date of the "Forum" revival from 1994 to 1996 but that whole section needs revised. It's all over the place. Something for my To-Do list I think...
- Al Clark 13:08, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- I can't find a source for the quote on "Doug Henning's greatest magic trick" - it seems to vary between "making the audience disappear" and "getting the show produced". Removing it until it can be verified.

Gay or not?
editIs Nathan Lane gay or not?
--Why not check the article, genius? Or Google?
Nathan Lane is a homosexual. —Preceding unsigned comment added by {} (talk • contribs)

speaking of which
editI found it remarkable that the section dealing with his homosexuality had an "unsourced" tag, when it was the only section which had references at all. That sure looks homophobic to me. I added another reference--a 5 page interview discussing his homosexuality at great length--and removed the tag. I have now added the tag to every section EXCEPT the gay section.
Quotes
editThese are some quotes that may be useful but they need to be sourced (and not just to IMDb) ...
[On being gay] "From the time I told my mother, I've been living openly. But really, I was born in 1956. I'm one of those old-fashioned homosexuals, not one of the newfangled ones who are born joining parades. My family referred to them as "fags", and that was it."
[Coming "Out" following the death of Matthew Shepard] "It was like somebody slapped me awake. At this point it's selfish not to do whatever you can....If I do this story and say I'm a gay person, it might make it easier for somebody else."
"I told my mother I was gay, and she s...and she...and then her face went white, and then she said, 'I would rather you were dead.' And I said, 'I knew you'd understand.' And then once I got her head out of the oven, everything was fine. She came from a generation where, yes, of course, she would have preferred if I was straight and had gotten married, but she, uh, you know, she was very accepting. What she enjoyed most is when I was in a musical. She would always say, um, 'I'm not saying this because I'm your mother; I'm saying it because it's true: you were the best one.'" [to James Lipton on "Inside the Actor's Studio"]
There may be better ones but these are all fine for now. Banjeboi 14:56, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
My favorite quote about the subject, before he decided to be public about it, was "I am in my 40's, single and work in musical theater. You do the math." The man is funny. DFS (talk) 03:24, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
Austin Powers
editDidn't Nathan Lane make a cameo in an Austin Powers movie?
- Yeah, he was in Austin Powers in Goldmember. --AMK1211 04:08, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
Quotation attributed to Advocate article
editThe quotation in which Lane describes himself as "an old-fashioned homosexual [etc.]" does not appear in the article cited to support it, "Citizen Lane" by Bruce Villanch, from The Advocate. Everywhere else I could find it either gives it as an uncited quote or is copied directly from the WP article. Does anyone know the actual original source to confirm that this quotation is genuine? Otherwise, it should be removed. --ShelfSkewed Talk 23:12, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
- Found it: The quotation is mentioned in what is currently the third reference--the Guardian article--which attributes it to a September 2001 interview in The New York Times Magazine. I was able to track down the NYTM piece, and the correct quotation (which the Guardian got right) is: "I'm one of those old-fashioned homosexuals, not one of the newfangled ones who are born joining parades." I'm going to correct the quote and the reference, although because the NYT is a registration site, the citation will be by way of the Guardian Unlimited article. --ShelfSkewed Talk 02:49, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:NathanLane1.JPG
editImage:NathanLane1.JPG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
As a sheep
edit“ | Not confirmed, but I believe he is the voice of one of the sheep in the Serta mattress commercials. | ” |
I removed the above from the article, it may be true but we should source it rather than speculate. Banjeboi 09:27, 5 July 2008 (UTC)
Matthew Broderick?
editBroderick's first name has disappeared completely from the page, as well as any link to his own Wikipedia page. The references therefore make no sense. Broderick Who?
- The reference came from the previous paragraph, which mentions Lane starring in The Producers, which was with Broderick. I've clarified this in the article. Thanks for bringing this matter to our attention. GlassCobra 16:55, 3 November 2009 (UTC)
Nathan Lane's voice in Fischerspooner's Money Can't Dance
editThe voice at the opening of the song Money Can't Dance by Fischerspooner, has a respoken quote of Gene Kranz speaking about Mission Control from an episode of Nova called "To The Moon". I believe it's Nathan Lane's voice, although I can't find confirmation anywhere on the net. 66.41.22.63 (talk) 17:46, 7 July 2011 (UTC)

Nathan a birth name or not?
editThe article and sidebar both say he was born as Joseph Nathan Lane. Under Career, because Joseph Lane was already in use, it says he changed his name to Nathan after Nathan Detroit. But if his name was already Nathan, he didn't change it, he elected to use his middle name for billing. It's certainly a good story for the romantic aspect of some sort of pre-destination, but not exactly correct. Is this the story Nathan himself tells? 184.98.123.96 (talk) 10:28, 31 January 2012 (UTC)
August 2014 edits
editI was just reviewing recent edits] to Nathan Lane. These edits seem to have removed a lot of information, such as the fact that he is of Jewish descent (which in stated in one of the references) as well as publisher information from a number of references -- among other things.
I don't want to just revert them all, but it's difficult to look at all the individual diffs and figure out what went wrong or why the information was removed.
Thanks, BCorr|Брайен 20:17, 27 August 2014 (UTC)
- One of the references explains why Lane's background may have been incorrectly reported.[1] Regards, Orange Suede Sofa (talk) 23:36, 27 August 2014 (UTC)
- Exactly. As I explained on my talk page, websites domains are NOT publishers for printed newspapers, and that source said that Matthew Broderick's mother was Jewish (but doesn't mention anybody's ethnicity), not Lane's. Snuggums (talk / edits) 00:43, 28 August 2014 (UTC)

- Thank for you detailed and patient reply! Apologies about the confusion on my part. Best, BCorr|Брайен 08:30, 28 August 2014 (UTC)

Should we mention the fact the guys is a fedora tipper?
editI really don’t know much about Nathan lane but he really seems to like to wear a fedora and tip it at ladies that pass by him. Where would be the best place to include this with sources of courses It’s not like this is the Wild West and people can just make up anything with questionable sources. lol 104.174.4.161 (talk) 21:18, 25 July 2022 (UTC)
- This sounds too trivial to include, with or without references. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 21:26, 25 July 2022 (UTC)
