WM-P88 speed
editThis claim has been around for a long time but I have yet to find any convincing evidence that it is true that Peugeot “changed the top speed of this car to reflect a new model”. Since the speed trap which recorded the speeds - and had done so since 1961 - was owned and operated by the ACO, it seems unlikely that Peugeot’s influence would extend to persuading an essentially independent body to change its speed trap readout for that company’s commercial convenience. I realise there has been a reference provided but it provides no authoritative sources (interviews or confirmation from the ACO) and looks rather like hearsay. The speeds recorded by the ACO speed trap can be found here:

- If Peugeot want to round down the record to the nearest multiple of 5 in their own advertisments nobody is going to stop them. The ACO don't have to change their own official readout from the speed trap for Peugeot to do that. HumanBodyPiloter5 (talk) 16:43, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
- I think maybe I didn't make myself clear. The actual recorded speed was 405. It wasn't 407 and rounded down. Furthermore, that "source" cited in the article gives zero evidence that the claim is true or verifiable. Flanker235 (talk) 12:17, 26 February 2021 (UTC)

- Thank you for that article but it doesn't change anything. The speed was recorded at 405 and that is in the ACO records. Peugeot and Dorchy claim they went faster, citing gearing and what "felt" fast but the records show otherwise. Besides, what applies to one car applies to all. In other words, if Peugeot though they were being hard done, it's odd that I can't find anyone else who had anything to say about it, one way or the other. The ACO says 405 and can see no reason to doubt them, much less consider a story that the car really did 407 but the company got the ACO to change it for commercial purposes.
