Ammon News - Chairman of the Board of Commissioners at the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC), Bassem Al-Sarhan, said on Sunday evening that individuals bringing mobile devices into Jordan from abroad must register them to prevent local telecom providers from disabling their services.
Jordanians will be allowed to bring in a limited number of mobile devices, Al-Sarhan told Al-Mamlaka.
He also pointed out that the country suffers significant customs revenue losses from smuggled devices, highlighting the need for a digital system to effectively control smuggling.
Al-Sarhan explained that there is no problem with a device imported through an official system, subject to tax, and sold by companies, as the Commission has addressed the issue through three lists: "white, black, and gray."
The white list is the device that entered the customs department at the crossing and is activated upon its exit, the black list is the device that is not reported and is "blocked", while the gray list is the temporary entry list (guests, diplomats, and temporary visitors), according to Al-Sarhan.
