09-03-2025 12:49 PM

Ammon News - Al-Hussein Irbid has fortified their position atop the Jordan Professional Football League, stretching their advantage to an impressive eight points as Matchweek 16 concluded this weekend.

The league pacesetters have established significant daylight between themselves and second-placed Al-Wehdat, creating a substantial buffer in their quest for championship glory.

In Friday evening's marquee clash, Al-Faisaly delivered a disciplined performance to overcome Al-Wehdat 1-0, with Hadi Al-Hourani's clinical 36th-minute strike proving the difference between the sides.

Al-Hussein Irbid demonstrated their championship credentials with a clinical 4-1 dismantling of Ma'an. Majdi Al-Attar initiated the scoring festival in the 9th minute, followed by Salim Obeid doubling the advantage in the 19th.

Though James Innocent briefly reduced the deficit in the 21st minute, further goals from Mahmoud Al-Mardi (64') and Mohammed Abu Zureiq (90') ensured the league leaders maintained their impressive momentum.

Al-Ramtha enhanced their standing with a hard-fought 2-1 triumph over Al-Sareeh, propelled by Majd Al-Zoubi's first-half brace (40', 45+2'), while Yousef Daraghmeh's stoppage-time effort (90+5') proved merely consolatory for Al-Sareeh.

Shabab Al-Urdon produced a composed performance against Al-Ahli, emerging with a comfortable 2-0 victory courtesy of early sharpshooter Khaled Essam (4') and Rawad Abu Khizran's second-half clincher (75').

In a contest of fine margins, Al-Jazeera edged past Magheer Al-Sarhan with Wajdi Nazih delivering the decisive blow in stoppage time (90+1'), while Shabab Al-Aqaba concluded the matchweek by claiming a dramatic 2-1 away victory at Al-Salt through Khaled Al-Asouli (36') and Abdul Rahman Al-Hassan's breathtaking last-gasp winner (90+9').

The current standings reflect Al-Hussein Irbid's dominance with 40 points, followed by Al-Wehdat (32), Al-Faisaly and Al-Ramtha (27 each), Al-Jazeera (25), Al-Salt (21), Al-Ahli and Shabab Al-Urdon (18 each), Ma'an and Shabab Al-Aqaba (14 each), Magheer Al-Sarhan (10), and Al-Sareeh anchoring the table with 9 points.
