If anything goes Wrong with my recitals I know it is in me and not in the Steinway. There is a richness in Steinway tone, an individuality not found in another piano. The support it gives the voice and the solo instrument is frequently referred to as a counterpart, just as the pianist feels that his Steinway is his other self.
