AKS Engineering & Forestry LLC (AKS) has acquired Permit Surveying Inc. (PSI) of Richland, Washington. The purchase, which took effect March 1, expands AKS’ resources in the Tri-Cities area and enhances its survey capabilities offered locally.

PSI is a land surveying firm that provides services to local municipalities, federal agencies, special districts, ports, private landowners, engineers and contractors in the Tri-Cities region. PSI was originally founded in 1991 as Permit Engineering Inc.

In 1993, Gerald Webber split from Permit Engineering to form Permit Surveying Inc. to focus on land surveying. Webber served as president until his retirement in 2001, when Daniel Strasser assumed the role. When Strasser retired in 2010, Chris Ammann became president. He now leads a six-person team that will continue to serve clients with support from AKS’ staff, a press release states.

Staff based in AKS’ office in Kennewick, Washington, will join PSI staff in the Richland office this month.

AKS offers land surveying, construction surveying, hydrographic surveying, aerial surveying, lidar, and GIS services. The regional engineering company also provides civil engineering, water resources, land use planning, natural resources, landscape architecture, arborist, forestry/forest engineering and construction support services. In addition to its headquarters in Tualatin and its Kennewick (now Richland) office, the company has five others: Bend, Keizer, The Dalles, and Vancouver and White Salmon, Washington. AKS has a total of 360 employees.
