Today, the structures of modern laboratories often resemble those of a classical manufactory. Equipment and processes are not interconnected and the precious sample is usually processed manually by the employees. For a long time, this structure was sufficient to exploit the innovative power of the laboratories. nICLAS - Innovation center for laboratory automation hat dies direkt geteilt
Aktuelle Ansätze der #Krebstherapie konzentrieren sich darauf, den Patient*innen körpereigene #Zellen zu entnehmen, diese im #Labor zu modifizieren und dann zu verabreichen. Im Körper sollen die veränderten Zellen dann selektive Immunreaktionen gegen Krebszellen auslösen. Die Herstellung ist jedoch anfällig für Verunreinigungen. Doch nun haben Michael Pfeifer, Richard Rösch und Markus Schandar vom Fraunhofer IPA ein steriles Verbindungselement entwickelt, mit dessen Hilfe das sogenannte #Liquidhandling innerhalb eines geschlossenen Systems automatisiert ablaufen kann. Es könnte den Herstellungsprozess moderner medizinischer Therapeutika vereinfachen. Beim Ideenwettbewerb #Science2Start der BioRegio STERN Management GmbH haben die drei Wissenschaftler mit ihrem Konzept den dritten Platz belegt. nICLAS - Innovation center for laboratory automation hat dies direkt geteilt
In recent months, my colleagues Michael Pfeifer and Markus Schandar have developed and constructed an innovative needle-based sterile connector. I had the opportunity to support and participate in this project as part of the Fraunhofer AHEAD program. The purpose of the sterile connector is to securely connect vials and other containers equipped with a septum, ensuring a contamination-free liquid transfer. The first prototype of the connector has already been successfully assembled, and initial tests have been conducted. These trials are crucial for verifying the functionality and safety of the product. We are currently in the phase of further development and optimization. To advance the project and bring the sterile connector to market readiness, we are now looking for interested users and potential customers. These partnerships are vital for acquiring new resources and further development of the product. We believe that our sterile connector can make a significant contribution to improving safety and efficiency in medical and pharmaceutical applications.
