Comprehensive Study on #Carbon-Coated Silver for Improved Tribo-#Electrical and Wetting Performance by Bruno Alderete, Frank Mücklich and Sebastian Suarez C 2024, 10(1), 16; https://lnkd.in/dT-5i4Hr Current number of article views: 1224 Abstract The rise in electrification has considerably increased the demand for high-efficiency and durable electrical contact materials. Carbon nanoparticles (CNP) are a promising coating material due to their intrinsic transport properties (thus minimizing the impact on conductivity), their proven solid lubricity (potentially improving tribological performance), and their hydrophobic wetting behavior (potentially providing atmospheric protection). In this study, carbon nanotube and nanohorn coatings are produced via electrophoretic deposition on silver-plated surfaces, followed by tribo-electrical and wetting characterization. The proposed coatings do not negatively affect the conductivity of the substrate, showing resistance values on par with the uncoated reference. Tribo-electrical characterization revealed that the coatings reduce adhesive wear during fretting tests while maintaining stable and constant electrical contact resistance. Furthermore, CNP-coated surfaces show a hydrophobic wetting behavior toward water, with graphite and carbon nanotube (CNT) coatings approaching super-hydrophobicity. Prolonged exposure to water droplets during sessile drop tests caused a reduction in contact angle (CA) measurement; however, CNT coatings’ CA reduction after five minutes was only approximately 5°. Accordingly, CNP (specifically CNT) coatings show auspicious results for their application as wear and atmospheric protective barriers in electrical contacts. MNRE Unveils Guidelines for Green Hydrogen Production Under SIGHT Programme Component II The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) announced new guidelines for the implementation of Green Hydrogen production under the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) Programme – Component II: Incentive Scheme for Green Hydrogen Production (Mode 1) – Tranche-II. Notified on July 3, 2024, this tranche aims to produce 450,000 tons per annum (TPA) of Green Hydrogen. Of this, 40,000 TPA is earmarked for biomass-based pathways (bucket-II), while the remainder will utilize technology-agnostic pathways (bucket-I). 🆕ENTSO-E & ENTSOG publish joint electricity and hydrogen Interlinked Model ENTSOG and ENTSO-E have published today their joint Interlinked Model (#ILM) 2024 progress report for public feedback. This report introduces a dual assessment method for electricity and hydrogen, plus key recommendations for integrated models in their Ten Year Network Development Plans (#TYNDPs). Gerald Kaendler, Chair of ENTSO-E’s System Development Committee, commented: “To achieve EU targets in the most efficient way, it is essential to keep a full energy system perspective, viewing the future energy system as a System of Systems. The ILM is a key instrument in this regard, when assessing the value of infrastructure projects.’’ This report marks a milestone in coordinated system planning across sectors, in line with EU regulations. To reach the decarbonisation objectives set by the EU, the future energy system will be a System of Systems, based on strong cooperation between transmission and distribution. The impact of intermittency on electrolyzers and green hydrogen production. The key conclusions from the report are; 1) Performance and durability of electrolysers at all levels of the system operation are significantly influenced by the variation of temperature and electrical load conditions 2) Both the performance and durability of electrolysers are impacted by the frequency of intermittent cycles during intermittent operation 3) Short current interruption or decrease promotes partial performance recovery 4) The stiffness of ramp-up and ramp-down events typically encountered in intermittent operation has an impact on the efficiency, gas purity and degradation rate 5) The frequency and waveform of ripple factors encountered in power conversion units impact the efficiency and degradation rate of electrolysers. #greenhydrogen #electrolyzers #intermittency #renewableenergy
