Spotting Scopes.. People tend to cheap out when choosing a spotting scope. They drop 8k on a rifle, 4k on the optic then they want to spend £500 on a spotting scope.. And guess what? They end up dissapointed. The spotting scope play two main roles - identifying targets and spotting fall of shot. The latter being incredibly difficult. Spotting fall of shot can be comparitively easy at a gallery range. Angled sand which provides a visible impact in the target area. A mediorcre optic will probably do that. But what if your shooting "off piste". Things get 10x harder. Fantastic glass is therefore your first priority. You want maximum light transmission so you can dial up magnification without everything going dark. In the past this meant scopes would have very thick bodies which made them cumbersome. Steiner Optics developed the TS740 spotting scope in conjunction with German SF. It provides a much smaller footprint while still giving excellent light transmission from 7-40x magnification.. I have had the pleasure of seeing Steiners excellent production facility. The levels of care, quality inspection and testing are incredible. They grind and polish their own glass with experience learned over 60 years. This gives you the best chance at spotting impacts even at longer distance. Of course they are not cheap. Nothing that is really good for long range shooting is.. As usual - Buy once, cry once! Beretta Holding Steiner Optics GmbH Beretta Defense Technologies #spotting scope
