Our Green Mobility Trainees (GMTs) explored future propulsion and transport concepts on visits to Lilium, Wingcopter, Odonata, Bauhaus Luftfahrt, and TUM Hyperloop. With a focus on battery- and hydrogen-powered aircraft and land-based travel, they gained insights into innovative ideas, climate-neutral transport, and challenges in aviation. Through these explorations, we aim to deepen our understanding of innovation and climate-neutral solutions in the aviation sector, uncovering new opportunities and addressing key challenges. Good news for electric mobility: Lufthansa LEOS e-fleet is growing    Did you know that Lufthansa LEOS now operates six e-tugs? And more to come!   The first full-electric tug has been driving across the Frankfurt airport apron since January 2022, the newest tug joined the e-fleet in July 2024.   Here are some interesting facts about our e-tug-fleet:   6️⃣ A total of six fully-electric tractors are now in use.   ↔️ They move aircraft with a take-off weight of up to 352 metric tons (Airbus A350, Boeing B777) between parking areas, hangars and to departure positions with zero emissions and low noise.    3️⃣ In addition to the all-electric models, three hybrid models and the remaining 12 diesel towing tractors currently support the daily work.   👶🏼 The youngest E-tug, the Goldhofer Phoenix E, has already covered 4,000 km with an aircraft in tow within four months – over 8,000 km in total.   📏 An E-tug weighs approx. 17 t, is almost 9 m long and 3.5 m wide.   ⏱️ With over 1,000 operating hours since July 2024, 11,000 liters of diesel have already been saved, avoiding 219,000 kg of CO2.   In addition to the environmental benefits, the Phoenix E tugs also have operational advantages: 📈 On average, they perform over 20 percent better than the diesel models in the fleet over a comparable period of time.   🌍 Since the Goldhofer Phoenix E electric tractors were added to the tractor fleet, a total of 280,000 liters of diesel have been saved and 750 tons of CO2 have been avoided. This corresponds to the capacity of almost nine heating oil trucks. The electric tractors from the ground handling specialist are thus making an important contribution to making aircraft movements at Frankfurt Airport more sustainable.   3️⃣ more e-tugs are expected to join the fleet in 2025 – so stay tuned! #WeAreLufthansaGroup #Emobility

🌍 Time to discover the ProTeam program: Meet Generation 38, the newest members of our graduate program! Having started in July, they are currently engaged in the first of four major projects. Over the next few months, they will take on three additional projects in Germany and abroad. Beyond these projects, they will gain firsthand experience with flight operations, participate in an airport week, visit a monastery for self-development, and contribute to social initiatives with the Help Alliance – a true experience of Vielfalt. Celebrating 10 years of the Expert Path Engineering at Lufthansa Technik! 🎉 We just wrapped up an incredible event at Lufthansa Technik in Hamburg, marking the 10th anniversary of our Expert Path Engineering! Over the past decade, this program has empowered our engineers to pursue technical expert paths, unlocking new possibilities within aviation engineering. 👓Exploring the Future of Aviation with Meta: Lufthansa Group Innovation Lunch Recap✈️ Yesterday, we took another step towards reshaping the future of aviation. During an inspiring keynote at our INNOV.EAT event, we discussed the potential and challenges of the metaverse for the aviation industry with Meta and over 300 curious colleagues. Tino Krause from Meta gave us some insights into the Meta innovation ecosystem, mindset and vision. Basti Schütz from Meta and Bjoern Becker from Lufthansa shared their successes and learnings from their pilot project that enables a mixed reality experience above the clouds. Since November, our Lufthansa guests can experience this pilot project on selected routes to San Francisco and Shanghai, where we have equipped the Lufthansa Allegris Business Class with the Meta Quest 3 glasses. This allows passengers to experience a variety of special mixed reality content, such as an immersive cinema experience with selected movies and TV shows, travel podcasts whose content is brought to life through spatial videos and selected 360-degree videos, interactive games and relaxation through active meditation exercises. It is the first time that an airline has offered access to mixed reality headsets and content in a commercial in-flight environment. This success was underlined by the fact that Lufthansa has just received the #APEX Innovation Award for the best in-flight entertainment for this mixed reality flight experience 👏. I fly for bringing hope through education ✈️ The "Balhingo" training center in Gambia offers vocational training in agriculture to 80 young people each year who are at risk of unemployment, giving them a secure career path. The young people learn how to cultivate fertile soil, practice permaculture vegetable farming, and gain the skills needed to write their own business plans. At the end of their training, they receive initial financial support to help ease their transition from learning to establishing their first agricultural businesses. Employees from Austrian Airlines have supported this important project for several years.
