First personal impressions from #COP29 in #Baku as week one is in full swing: Did you know that COP29 Azerbaijan is holding the first-ever Digitalization Day? This underlines the importance of urgently reducing emissions in the ICT sector due to the expected doubling of energy consumptions and 30-50% of GHG emissions. Therefore, many thanks to the International Telecommunication Union for facilitating the high-level opening session of #GreenDigitalAction. The aim of this action: strengthening collaborative power for a #sustainable digital tech industry. As Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH, we are proud to be part of this and to support our partner countries with regards to the #TwinTransition. Thank you again to our partner ITU for their pioneering work. Also, worth mentioning: yesterday was Finance Day at #COP29, which marked it as “PINK DAY”. In recognition of the important role women play in driving #ClimateAction, showing solidarity and supporting #GenderEquality in general, many wore pink. The initiative is born out of the finance room – standing together and affirming the importance of #gender responsive climate #financing! Last but not least, I would also like to say a big thank you to our GIZ colleagues who are supporting the work of the German Climate Pavilion this year. You are doing a brilliant job – and the Pavilion’s coffee helps us to get through the long conference days!
