🌟 Reflecting on an inspiring AI4Ed gathering in Saragossa! 🌟 Over the last week, I had the privilege of joining colleagues from across Europe at the University of Saragossa to dive into the 𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗜𝟰𝗘𝗱 - a project fueled by Erasmus+ to transform education through AI and forward-thinking pedagogical strategies. The warmth of our hosts and the vibrant cultural backdrop made this meeting even more memorable. 🤝 As Data Steward of the Data Science Center (DSC) der Universität Bremen, I had the opportunity to lead discussions on our data management practices, including the critical 𝗝𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 which is required when two or more consortium partners jointly determine the purposes and means of processing personal data within a project. Transparency and security are at the core of our work, and it was great to see partners so engaged in these discussions. 👩🏫 I also introduced my 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝘀 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗜𝟰𝗘𝗱'𝘀 𝗽𝗮𝗻-𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 which will be open to everyone and is designed to help develop skills that support effective, FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) data practices. Starting with a hands-on challenge, the participants will explore essential data management principles, along with the unique challenges we've faced in AI4Ed. I recently had the opportunity to lead a training session for all members of the U Bremen Research Alliance titled "Obsidian for Researchers: Customizing Your Digital Research Assistant." 📚✨ During a day of engaging discussions, I guided researchers through the basics of Obsidian, helping them reflect on their personal workflows. The goal was to empower them to set up their own Obsidian environments based on a self-written workflow I provided, ensuring they wouldn't feel overwhelmed by this versatile tool. 💻📝 The experience was not just about teaching; it was a mutual learning opportunity. The participants were enthusiastic and shared valuable insights about their research processes, which enriched our discussions. 🤝💡 I left the training feeling inspired and grateful for the chance to connect with such passionate individuals. Wie gesund sind die Igel in unserer Nachbarschaft? Gemeinsam mit Bürgerwissenschaftler*innen untersucht das Projekt „Guardians of the Hedgehogs" des Leibniz-Institut für Präventionsforschung und Epidemiologie – BIPS und des Netzwerk Igelfreunde Bremen die lokale Igelpopulation und ihren Gesundheitszustand. Dabei werden Bürger*innen aktiv durch Meldung ihrer Sichtungen und kleine Experimente eingebunden, um wertvolle Daten zu sammeln. Ziel ist es, die Ursachen für den Rückgang der Igelpopulation in Bremen besser zu verstehen und Maßnahmen zum Schutz der stacheligen Stadtbewohner und ihrer Lebensräume zu entwickeln. Das Citizen Science-Projekt „Guardians of the Hedgehogs“ hat zum Ziel, die Igelpopulation in der Region Bremen zu zählen und zu schützen. Das Projekt ist Teil von DataNord, und wird von #UBRA-Mitgliedseinrichtung Leibniz-Institut für Präventionsforschung und Epidemiologie – BIPS durchgeführt. Was Igelgesundheit mit uns Menschen zu tun hat? Igel spielen eine bedeutende Rolle in unserem Ökosystem. Gemäß dem Konzept von „One Health“ bestehen Wechselwirkungen zwischen der Gesundheit von Menschen, Tieren und der Umwelt, diese sind also untrennbar miteinander verbunden. Die Gesundheit der Igelpopulation steht folglich in enger Verbindung zur Gesundheit der Umwelt - und der Menschen. ------ Have you seen a hedgehog? Time to report it. The next reporting period is from September 20th to 30th, 2024 (see comment for link). The citizen science project "Guardians of the Hedgehogs" aims to count and protect the hedgehog population in the Bremen region. The project is part of DataNord and is carried out by #UBRA member institution Leibniz-Institut für Präventionsforschung und Epidemiologie – BIPS. What does hedgehog health have to do with us humans? Hedgehogs play an important role in our ecosystem. According to the concept of "One Health", there are interactions between the health of humans, animals and the environment, so they are inextricably linked. The health of the hedgehog population is therefore closely linked to the health of the environment - and of humans.
