- Sentimental Journey és l'àlbum de debut en solitari de Ringo Starr, publicat el 1970 mentre The Beatles s'apartaven de les seves obligacions com a grup. Si bé Ringo era el tercer membre del grup que editava un àlbum en solitari, després de George Harrison i John Lennon, suposava el primer àlbum d'estudi pròpiament dit a diferència de les publicacions experimentals dels anteriors. El primer àlbum de Paul McCartney , seria publicat tres setmanes després de l'edició de Sentimental Journey. Començant les sessions l'octubre de 1969, Ringo va sol·licitar els serveis de George Martin per ajudar-lo en el seu primer esforç en solitari. La idea de Ringo era crear un àlbum de clàssics que reflectís els temes preferits pels seus pares, per la qual cosa va preguntar prèviament a la seva família per seleccionar les cançons. Ringo Starr est le premier à publier un album qui ne soit pas une bande originale, Wonderwall Music pour George Harrison, ou de la musique expérimentale, Two Virgins pour John Lennon. Son idée est en effet d'enregistrer un album de reprises de chansons parues entre les années 1920 et 1950, choisies par ses proches. Les sessions d'enregistrement s'étendent entre octobre 1969 et mars 1970, avec la participation de nombreux amis du batteur, notamment Klaus Voormann et Paul McCartney aux arrangements. George Martin producteur des Beatles, se charge de la production de l'album. Sa sortie fin mars 1970 survient alors que les Beatles se séparent officiellement et que sort leur dernier album Let It Be, ainsi que le premier disque solo de McCartney. La critique, curieuse de voir ce dont Ringo Starr est capable sans le groupe, est très mitigée lors de la sortie du disque. La curiosité du public l'emporte cependant puisqu'il entre dans les charts des deux côtés de l'Atlantique, atteignant la 7e place au Royaume-Uni, et la 22e aux États-Unis. Une version remastérisée sort sur CD en 1995. Starr began recording Sentimental Journey in London in October 1969, in response to Lennon's private announcement that he was leaving the Beatles. Starr made a promotional film for the song "Sentimental Journey", in which he performed with an orchestra and dancers at the Talk of the Town nightclub. The cover of the album shows Starr in front of a pub in the Dingle area of Liverpool, where he grew up. The album's impact was compromised by Paul McCartney's refusal to delay the release of his solo debut, McCartney, and by McCartney then initiating the group's break-up. Despite receiving mixed reviews from music critics and confusing Beatles fans through its choice of music, Sentimental Journey charted inside the top ten in the United Kingdom and peaked at number 22 on the Billboard Top LPs chart in the United States.
