La sua prima apparizione avviene in Journey into Mystery (vol. 1) n. 86 (novembre 1962). Ispirato all'omonimo re degli dei della mitologia norrena, Odino è il saggio, stimato e onnipotente signore di Asgard, padre di Thor e, in qualità di sovrano di un pantheon mitologico, membro del "Consiglio dei Padri del Cielo" (Council of Godheads), i quali hanno sempre ammirato la sua sapienza e rudezza guerriera, in particolare e , con cui condivide un'amicizia tanto profonda da far sì che si considerino come fratelli.
