- Agnotozoa is the name of a taxon of simple animals. The name first appeared in an invertebrate paleontology book as one of the "branches" of the subkingdom Metazoa. The branch contained only one group: Mesozoa. More recently, some have used the name to refer to a sub-kingdom of three small phyla of simple animals without organs. These phyla are Placozoa, Orthonectida, and Rhombozoa. They still have differentiated tissue, but that tissue is only organized in simple ways; for example, by being layered. The Orthonectida and Rhombozoa are also grouped into the Mesozoa. Biologists today generally do not use the taxon Agnotozoa. There are a few likely reasons for this.
* There is doubt that placozoans are closely related to mesozoans.
* There is doubt even that the two mesozoan groups (orthonectids and rhombozoans) are related to each other.
* Even if the two mesozoan groups are related, there is little need for another name in addition to mesozoa. Wikispecies places the mesozoans in kingdom protista. (en)
- Los agnotozoos (Agnotozoa) son un grupo artificial creado en 1952 por Moore et al. que apenas fue usado con posterioridad. Incluía tres filos de pequeños de animales sin órganos diferenciados, Placozoa, Orthonectida y Rhombozoa. Presentan tejidos, pero no estructurados en órganos sino en formas sencillas como láminas monoestratificadas. El grupo carece de todo significado taxonómico o filogenético y su uso en la actualidad está completamente abandonado, ya que dichos filos no tienen en realidad nada en común. - De Agnotozoa vormen naast de Eumetazoa en de Parazoa het derde onderrijk binnen de Dieren.Agnotozoa hebben geen volledig gedifferentieerde weefsels maar wel afzonderlijke lagen van verschillende celtypen. Het gaat om kleine wormvormige dieren met twee levensstadia, het één parasiterend in darm- en nierbuizen van diverse kleine zeedieren en het ander . Het onderrijk is te verdelen in drie stammen. Voor ieder ervan geldt dat het stadium een lichaam heeft dat is opgebouwd uit aparte cellen, met aan de buitenzijde een ongedifferentieerde laag cellen met trilharen en daarbinnen geslachtscellen.
* Voor de Orthonectida geldt dat het vrijlevende stadium een metamere lichaamsbouw heeft en dat de parasiet als veelkernig syncytium voorkomt in gewervelden
* De Rhombozoa zijn tijdens het parasitaire stadium juist opgebouwd uit aparte cellen en komen voor in inktvissen.
* De Placozoa tot slot vormen waarschijnlijk de primitiefste groep. (nl)
