There is something so fun about a retelling and if there's one retelling I never even imagined, it's the story of The Great Gatsby retold in Beautiful Villain.

Written by Rebecca Kenney and published by Sourcebooks Casablanca, this book is the start of a new series. Called the Gilded Monsters series, each book is poised to follow a retelling of a classic story we've come to know and love.

While I was originally intimidated by Beautiful Villain, Kenney truly surprised me by making this book so compulsively readable that I could hardly put it down. To be totally honest with you, I didn't think I'd end up enjoying this book nearly as much as I did.

With that being said, I'd like to thank Sourcebooks Casablanca for sending me an ARC to read as I absolutely devoured this book and haven't stopped thinking about since I finished it.

Beautiful Villain is an absolute must-read this summer.

Let me start by saying that I remember reading and loving The Great Gatsby as a teenager. However, I never imagined I'd see it morphed into a fantasy romance. Even so, this book captivated me from the very start and if you're looking for some more romantasy, then Beautiful Villain absolutely needs to be on your TBR.

This story follows our main character, Daisy Finnegan who goes to an extravagant party and is wondering who the host is. Eventually, she finds out that it's Gatsby, Jay Gatsby who used to be her childhood friend turned sweetheart. Unfortunately, circumstances kept the two apart and it's clear Gatsby has made a name for himself since they were ripped apart.

Meanwhile, Daisy ends up dating Tom and after some toxicity on his part, the two break up but Tom can't seem to let go. However, it only pushes Daisy further into Jay's embrace and she eventually learns the truth of why Jay is the way he is. Yes, you can say it out loud: Vampire. Come on, I couldn't resist a Twilight reference there.

While this book hits all the classic beats from The Great Gatsby, it makes things all the sexier as the tension between Daisy and Jay is blazing. Once these two are alone together, it's like fireworks and honestly, it makes the book all the better. Plus we even get a side romance between Nick and Gatsby's best friend which was delightful.

Beautiful Villain was dark and gritty at times while also being incredibly steamy and fun. If you're loving vampires at the moment, then you don't want to miss out on this. This story captivated me from the very first page and made me even more interested in what else Rebecca Kenney has released.

Beautiful Villain by Rebecca Kenney is out now where books are sold.
