Hello Alachuckthebuck, I just want you to know that the file is a screenshot from TV show currently in the public domain. Byejai (talk) 22:48, 11 March 2024 (UTC)

Hello Byejai,
I appreciate the effort you put into getting citations for the show being in public domain, but the first citation doesn't seem to work. The working citation you provided had no mention of it being in the public domain, but it also was a poorly designed website, so I may have missed it. Considering the show is on a major network (ABC) I would assume they updated the copyright. I am not an expert, and that first source might prove its public domain, but based on what you provided, it's not pd yet. Alachuckthebuck (talk) 01:36, 12 March 2024 (UTC)

File:NSI Nation.png

This is logo of NSI Nation record label and I added it to commons for the article I'm writing on English Wikipedia about NSI Nation and it's already in public domai.[1] Wonderbosss (talk) 16:11, 25 March 2024 (UTC)

How is it in public domain? There is no evidence of a compatible license at the image source and based on what an image search turns up, it was never released under a compatible license by the copyright holder. Alachuckthebuck (talk) 16:17, 25 March 2024 (UTC)
Image was gotten from Facebook and checked out at the source provided Wonderbosss (talk) 17:07, 25 March 2024 (UTC)
There is no source provided, and images from Facebook are not under a compatible licence by default. You also claim the image is your own work. If it is, then please provide proof to VRT

Autopatrol given

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. Bedivere (talk) 04:28, 27 March 2024 (UTC)

Thanks! I was thinking about asking for patroler and/or license reviewer and helping out there. Do you think I have the experience to be useful in these areas? Alachuckthebuck (talk) 17:12, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
@Bedivere courtesy ping, forgot to add in prior post. Alachuckthebuck (talk) 15:35, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
I'd suggest asking for these rights. I think you'd do fine as a patroller. Bedivere (talk) 16:27, 28 March 2024 (UTC)

Counter Vandalism Unit

Hi Alachuckthebuck,

You now have the Patroller right and may call yourself a patroller! Please take a moment to read the updated Commons:Patrol to learn how Patrolling works and how we use it to fight vandalism.

As you know already, the patrolling functionality is enabled for all edits, not just for new-page creations. This enables us to keep track of, for example, edits made by anonymous users here on Commons.

We could use your help at the Counter Vandalism Unit. For example by patrolling an Anonymous-edits checklist and checking a day-part.

If you have any questions please leave a message on the CVU talkpage or ask for help on IRC in #wikimedia-commons.

Deletion requests

Hi, Do not create invalid deletion requests. Please read COM:DR. Thanks, Yann (talk) 11:17, 24 March 2024 (UTC)

Hello @Yann,
I'm not very clear on what was wrong with that mass DR. We only needed one of the 50-ish files nominated in that batch, and another batch of about 100 variations of that very logo were speedyed. I am definitely not perfect, and would appreciate feedback for future noms.Alachuckthebuck (talk) 15:43, 25 March 2024 (UTC)
This logo is in the public domain, so tagging it as copyright violation is wrong. Now if there are several useless copies, a regular deletion request can be created with examples. Yann (talk) 18:01, 25 March 2024 (UTC)
(forgetting pd-textlogo) thanks for clearing that up. I'll start the DR for all the dupes. Alachuckthebuck (talk) 18:28, 25 March 2024 (UTC)
i was notified of a picture i uploaded was deleted by you, why is that so? Dagentle (talk) 08:54, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
It was deleted as it was a personal photo not being used on your user page.I didn't do the actual deletion, but I was the one who tagged it.

I apologize for the mistake, and appreciate you reaching out. I don't see any kind of comment or note at the top of the ajax section in your common.js, but I assume the error has been fixed. I'll apply the edit to my common.JS after writing this response.

What kind of comment or note were you expecting? The error is that Google doesn't support searchbyimage any more, and that was hardcoded into the buttons you added in this edit.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 01:48, 15 April 2024 (UTC)

File:Plage Paul Thomas 2.jpg

Hello, I think it must be an error on your part. Compare the photos carefully, this is a photo that I just took and not a copyright violation. Look at my history, you will see that it was taken at the same time as a whole series of other photos on this beach. I went there on purpose by canoe to take all these photos. Compare the waves carefully for example and you will see that they are not the same photos even if the angle used seems to have been the same. Sorry for this bad English, I use a translator because I speak very bad English. Sincerely. Enrevseluj (talk) 23:44, 14 April 2024 (UTC)

Deletion requests

Hi, Do not create deletion requests for simple design such as File:Atlanta1944.webp. Please read COM:TOO. Thanks, Yann (talk) 20:10, 16 April 2024 (UTC)

I didn't create the DR. someone uploaded a batch of historical logos for a football club, and I used VFC to mass tag them under F1 (source). In that I missed 1 as pd-old, and this one under TOO. Sorry for the mistake.

Batch upload of glyphs (IBM Plex)

Hi!

Do you know a technique where it is possible to upload several thousand files at once? I used UploadWizard, but it takes time, as you can only upload 500 files per upload process.

Thanks! --PantheraLeo1359531 😺 (talk) 07:48, 15 April 2024 (UTC)

Based on a quick search and my (limited) knowledge of mass file movement, your options are an upload bot or a server-side upload.

Charlie Kirk Photo

Why did you request a deletion request when it is me in the photo I took with Charlie Kirk today? I just cropped myself out so it could be on him. That photo is literally Charlie Kurk and not me. Shoot for the Stars (talk) 22:13, 23 April 2024 (UTC)

Also, how do I not have global contributions when I edit on Wikimedia Commons, Enwiki, Simple Wiki, Spanish Wiki, and so on? Shoot for the Stars (talk) 22:15, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
I am the wrong person to answer that question, I would recommend the Help Desk.
All the best -- Chuck Talk 22:19, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
We need permission from Charlie Kurk, regardless of if you removed yourself. We need proof of him consenting for his image to be released under a compatible licence, preferably in the form of an email sent to VRT.

Photos taken of a person require that persons consent and proof of that consent should be emailed to VRT. I hope that clears things up.
All the best -- Chuck Talk 22:30, 23 April 2024 (UTC)

Hi, F10 is not intended to be used for photographs of notable people like Charlie Kirk, and the photograph is in use at English Wikipedia. Additionally, this has EXIF data indicating it was taken from a cellular phone camera and it has not been previously published. In the United States, you don't need permission to take or publish a photograph of a person in a public space. I can add {{Personality rights}} to it though. Abzeronow (talk) 22:55, 23 April 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for the clarification! (The F10 was added pre-crop.)
All the best -- Chuck Talk 01:32, 24 April 2024 (UTC)

Hi Chuck. Could you please expand on why this wasn't PD? I think it would only be copyrighted if the copyright was renewed, and I can't find a renewal--did you? (Let me know if you'd like me to undelete so you can see it again; Túrelio deleted while I was looking at the renewal database.) Best, —‍Mdaniels5757 (talk • contribs) 20:31, 30 April 2024 (UTC)

I didn't find a renewal, but I also could barely find anything other than ebay listings for the box sets. I tagged under the assumption that CBS (as a major network) would renew the copyright when needed, and due to aformentioned box sets being published after 1961, copyright gets foggy.
All the best -- Chuck Talk 20:35, 30 April 2024 (UTC)

RE: Block request for User:Metrolinktrains

Hello, Chuck! I saw I've been flagged for "Username containing a commercial trademark." I apologize for any missteps as I try to navigate this platform. I've been tasked by my work with updating an outdated logo referenced in an infobox here (among several other places) and am trying to figure out how to take the old icon as uploaded in 2017, located here, and change the "symbol = Metrolink" to be the new icon which I've attempted to upload today, located here.

I apologize for any chaos that I've caused. Are you able to push me in the right direction so I can achieve this icon revision?

Thanks, Brett Metrolinktrains (talk) 20:39, 7 May 2024 (UTC)

Please read this essay about paid editors and send an email to VRT asking for next steps. Your username is against policy because it is just the name of the company, implying a shared account. Shared accounts are against Commons's username/account policy, as well as almost every other Wikimedia project. Trying to make any changes on the English Wikipedia with your current username will result in a very prompt block and explanation of their paid editor policy. I would recommend talking to your company's legal team about your logo's copyright status before emailing VRT.
All the best -- Chuck Talk 21:08, 7 May 2024 (UTC)
Thank you! I'll make the necessary requests for username change and review the necessary information before contacting VRT. Metrolinktrains (talk) 21:28, 7 May 2024 (UTC)

Commons does not allow any creative commons license with the non-commercial clause. Our licensing policy does not permit non-comercial licenses because the purpose of commons is for anyone to be able to use these images for any purpose, including commercial use. While it is a fantastic image, we can't host it here on commons.
All the best -- Chuck Talk 16:48, 14 May 2024 (UTC)
I got the license info from the link you provided, and in the future, It's considered bad practice to post the deletion notice on someone else's talk page. If you need to get their attention, a simple ping should suffice. I completely understand why you posted the notice, as getting your image tagged for speedy deletion is not a good feeling. In the future, to dispute a speedy deletion, Replace the word copyvio in the template on the file with delete (I would not recommend contesting this file, as it will be speedy deleted due to non-compatible license), or use the challenge speedy deletion button located right under the tag.
All the best -- Chuck Talk 16:57, 14 May 2024 (UTC)
I am sorry I do not know the proper way of disputing this so I posted to your talk page. This is so complicated. I am still not sure exactly how I need to dispute this. Argosykoji (talk) 17:06, 14 May 2024 (UTC)
to appeal the deletion file a request for undeletion at requests for undeletion. (I would advise aganst it, as the license is not compatible with commons).

IRC message

Hi there! Sorry for not getting back to you sooner, I was AFK and could not respond your message. Will have a look. Anyway, as a suggestion, I would not just mass-nominate for deletion images because their description seem promotional. These can be changed easily. The most important thing is the actual file, not the description. Bedivere (talk) 02:00, 25 May 2024 (UTC)

All good! the file could go either way for me, but the description was what put placed them firmly in promotional. Also, we don't need 400+ questionable quality wrestling photos from flickr. I nominated the first 210 or so for deletion, but didn't do the rest, as I couldn't check them, and VFC wasn't happy trying to load them in.
All the best -- Chuck Talk 05:07, 25 May 2024 (UTC)
I nominated the rest for you, with VFC's optional "Load thumbnails" checkbox unchecked.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 11:01, 25 May 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for doing that, I didn't nominate the rest after getting feedback from other VFC mass noms about checking images before upload. the account had been around for long enough that I wasn't sure if everything uploaded by the user was flickr spam, and wanted to check files before nominating everything. Based on what I saw, the user imported 300ish images about wrestling from a flickr account that had put promotional text in the title/description section of the EXIF. I don't know how easy that is to correct/edit, but will ask the uploader about the EXIF.
All the best -- Chuck Talk 20:49, 25 May 2024 (UTC)

F10

Hi Chuck, why did you nominate File:Université Alassane Ouattara-3.jpg and other images by the same uploader for F10 speedy deletion? Per COM:CSD#F10, F10 is for personal images by users without productive global contributions. Images of a college campus are definitely in scope, and the uploader has plenty of constructive edits at frwiki. Thanks, Pi.1415926535 (talk) 23:04, 29 May 2024 (UTC)

Hello pi,
Normaly I don't check global contribs when tagging as F10. ( I use en wiki's duck test) and will check commons contribs/account creation date before tagging if not completely sure. In the future, I'll check gobal contribs before F10 tags if the account is more than 2 weeks old.
Sorry for the mistake!

Licenses

The screnshots where comes from the Rihanna video are from Vogue Taiwan and this video is licensed with Creative Commons license on YouTube, do you know that some YouTube videos have these CC Licenses on there? Please, see the video and check ther "see more" section, you will fount that it has a Creative Commons license on there, thanks!! RevengerTime (talk) 01:50, 6 June 2024 (UTC)

Yes, I do understand that, but the correct way to challenge my speedy tag is to nominate the file for deletion rather than just remove the speedy tag. Removal of speedy tags is considered vandalism. In addition, Vogue Taiwan wouldn't have the ability to release video taken by the Vogue in the US, as they didn't produce the video have no copyright claim (the parent company would be able to release it, but not a unrelated subsidiary) under creative commons.
All the best -- Chuck Talk 01:56, 6 June 2024 (UTC)
Hi Chuck, while speedy deletion tags should not be removed in general, in some cases it is acceptable to remove them, as it happens in this case. I have no reason to believe Vogue Taiwan has no right to release their material under that CC license. A better approach, as you say, is to nominate them for deletion but in this case I don't think there's a reasonable doubt that the material was not released legitimately under the license. The Wikipedia article for Vogue includes Vogue Taiwan among " 11 of these editions are published by Condé Nast" Bedivere (talk) 02:10, 6 June 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for clearing that up. This was entirely my fault, and I completely deserve the edit warring block. All the best -- Chuck Talk 02:27, 6 June 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for taking it lightly (in a good sense). I appreciate your efforts countering copyright violations and out of scope files, but I have seen you have been a little harsh or overly-protective, in a way that could end up making some editors feel sensitive or harmed. As we say in Spanish, bájale un cambio, drop a change :-) Bedivere (talk) 02:42, 6 June 2024 (UTC)

Why did you tag File:Nicki Nicole 2021.jpg for speedy deletion? Looking at https://web.archive.org/web/20220115044320/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KWzSbR4Cafc , it's freely licensed. Multichill (talk) 21:33, 4 October 2024 (UTC)

When I checked, it was marked private, and tagged per precautionary principle. All the Best -- Chuck Talk 21:41, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
You should always check the archives. Just tagging it for speedy deletion is a bit lazy. Multichill (talk) 21:48, 4 October 2024 (UTC)

Block request for StalwartLabs

Hi,

I am writing in response to the block request related to my user account "StalwartLabs." I would like to clarify that the edits I made were in connection with an open-source project, specifically our mail server software, which can be found at https://github.com/stalwartlabs/mail-server This project is entirely open-source and has significant recognition within the community, evidenced by its 5,000 stars on GitHub. Additionally, it ranks on the first page of Google search for relevant terms like "mail server software." I believe these factors demonstrate the project's notability and relevance under Wikipedia's guidelines for popularity and verifiability, and I respectfully request that this be taken into consideration in relation to the block request. Thank you for your time and understanding. PS: I also contacted @Taivo regarding this block request. StalwartLabs (talk) 16:19, 9 October 2024 (UTC)

I apreciate you reaching out,
The issue with your username is that it implies shared use. This username is an instant block at en-wiki. However, what you can do is request a rename to user:Jondoe-StalwartLabs, or equivalent. In order to do this, you would need to verify your identity using VRT. I am going to remind you that you cant advertise on commons, or any Wikimedia project. @Taivo, Let me know if I missed anything. All the Best -- Chuck Talk 16:31, 9 October 2024 (UTC)
Thank you, I did not know about shared use but I have just requested a rename. I am aware that advertising is not allowed, I just would like to submit a technical Wikipedia page avoiding promotional language, similarly to another open source mail server called Dovecot https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dovecot_(software) - Stalwart has been listed in Wikipedia under https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mail_server_software for a few months already but its page does not exist yet. StalwartLabs (talk) 16:50, 9 October 2024 (UTC)
I'm going to recomend you go to en-wiki to sort that out. This is Wikimedia commons, we are an image repository, not an encyclopedia. I would recommend making a request at at the English Wikipedia teahouse, they can point you in the right direction. All the Best -- Chuck Talk 16:54, 9 October 2024 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) I guess there's a learning curve here, but I'll try to sort this out for you. Chuck doesn't appear to be an admin, it looks like no one has blocked you and it also looks like you don't even have an account at Wikipedia. What did happen is that Chuck took action to have your upload deleted under the pretense that it's advertising. As you're not presently engaging in concurrent activity at Wikipedia, it's easy to develop such an impression. RadioKAOS / Talk to me, Billy / Transmissions 22:33, 9 October 2024 (UTC)
Indeed, I am not an admin, the reason I am recomending en-wiki is becuase they mention creating an article and reference wikipedia links in their response. I can't guarantee that you will get a wikipedia article, as you have to meet the english wikipedia's notablity criteria to get an article. The TLDR of that page is, unless the project has a lot of secondary sources writing about it, you won't be able to get an article or a list entry.
@RadioKAOS, let me know if I missed anything, and welcome to my talk page. I'll put up some signage shortly.

Wrong reason for files deletion request

I've been a Wikipedia contributor for several years and I've just put the CHAA-FM page online on the French version of Wikipedia. I helped the user @Eric Tétreault to upload files to complete the article, and this person owns the rights to the images and logos, he's the general manager of this radio station in Montreal. These are not advertisements, but the visual identities of this community radio station, as well as photos of their premises!

Please cancel your deletion requests for the files uploaded by Eric Tétreault. Thank you.--JBouchez (talk) 19:17, 10 October 2024 (UTC)

Can you have him verify his ownership with VRT? We need verification that he has the ability to release the logos/photos under a creative commons license. If he cannot release them under a free license, then the need to be moved to en-wiki. All the Best -- Chuck Talk 21:09, 10 October 2024 (UTC)
I've never heard of VRT. He is the director of the organization. I'll send him an email explaining the process. I really hope it will work, this is quite disappointing. JBouchez (talk) 01:44, 13 October 2024 (UTC)
I would recommend adding the legal department to the email. Copyright is one of those things that must be run through legal before they happen. All the Best -- Chuck Talk 01:51, 13 October 2024 (UTC)

Abuse filter log

Hi. Thanks for helping, but please read the abuse filter log before responding at COM:FILTERT or let me know if you are not allowed to see the filter numbers (I know I can't see those numbers in incognito mode, but I can when logged in). My response in the case of -αβοοδ would have been "Hi, and welcome. I am sorry to inform you that you have triggered Special:AbuseFilter/245 by trying to edit a page in userspace that is not your account's without being autopatrolled. Please avoid such edits, and request autopatrol at COM:RFR when you think you are ready. ~~~~"   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 10:02, 19 October 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for correcting my mistake, I can see the numbers, but can't see the hidden filters. Does commons have filter managers, or can only admins see the edit filters? All the Best -- Chuck Talk 19:51, 20 October 2024 (UTC)

Hey, I was reading your userpage and clicked on "I trust you", which forwarded me to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AGF, which is a disambiguation page on the English Wikipedia. I tried to fix it, to forward to en:WP:AGF on the English Wiki instead, because you trust me (<3), but got the really cool message telling me I can't really edit someone else's userpage (the filter flagged it because it's not an edit people usually make). So I'm writing here to notify you of it. TheBooker66, but call me Ethan (talk) 16:56, 23 October 2024 (UTC)

Thank you so much for telling me! I've fixed the mistake. All the Best -- Chuck Talk 20:34, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
