New Lift Bridge Icons

[edit]

Just uploaded   (hLIFTae) and   (uhLIFTae) as different options to represent a lift bridge. Thoughts? Lost on  Belmont 3200N1000W  (talk) 18:30, 16 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

These look really good! You mean vertical lift, right? I can see it possibly working for bascule bridges with the line in the middle. Hotdog with ketchup (talk) 20:17, 16 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Originally I was thinking vertical lift, but I’m not sure we need that level of specificity. I had considered a bascule icon with a line in the middle, but this might interfere with border icons. Lost on  Belmont 3200N1000W  (talk) 20:48, 16 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Fair point when it comes to specificity. A few things I would add:
The heavy rail and base "u" icons look slightly different, with the "u" icon having more of a square in the middle. If I were to pick between one or the other, I would pick the heavy rail one.
Second, perhaps an icon like   (hLIFT) should be created (like   (hKRZW)) for a moving segment of a long bridge. But I would not bother with "a" or "e" icons, because separate "a(at)f" or "e(at)g" icons could work instead. Hotdog with ketchup (talk) 00:09, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Finally a “moving bridge” icon that makes sense. Please see all the previous discussion at Talk:BSicon/Icon geometry and SVG code neatness/Drawbridges. Looks like we’re heading the right way. -- Tuválkin 00:21, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I’m familiar with the past discussions on the subject and your comments/approval are the main ones I’m seeking since this has been your quest for the last eleven years. Do you have a preference for either style? Also, what are your thoughts on naming these? Lost on  Belmont 3200N1000W  (talk) 01:07, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
My 2 c€:
  1. I like   (hLIFTae) much better. Works well with, say,  (hLIFTaeWASSERq)  or even something unusual like  (hLIFTaeSTRq_saffron)  or  (hLIFTaeRP4q) .
  2. I suppose that this icon could be used to symbolize several types of movable bridges where the “table” changes shape / position in a symmetric way and stays undivided like those in these images at the right), unlike other types (for which something asymmetric like   is more illustrative).
  3. The chosen name is already taken by   (uLIFT), so I’d suggest something different, maybe only a small change like LFT. I envisage that this set of new icons will replace all hitherto usage, but I think it’s a bad idea to overwrite existing files instead of uploading anew.
  4. Is it a good idea to have variant icons differentiate a working movable bridge from one that is stuck in the closed position? And I mean closed for the waterway traffic (because to show closed for the rail traffic we already have ex). I would suggest something like   (LLSTRae) for the former and the usual   (STR) for the latter.
(It was 4 c€ instead!) -- Tuválkin 02:32, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Adding to my §4 above, a movable bridge that’s not moving anymore could also be simply identified in a diagram with the normal   (hSTRae) icon, leaving   (hLIFTae) for a functional movable bridge. -- Tuválkin 12:42, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
As far as non functioning bridges, I think using   (hSTRae) type icons is the way to go. (Functionally, what is the difference between a bridge that no longer raises and one that never did?) If we need to show that a lifting bridge used to allow passage, we should do something like  (hLIFTaelENDE@FqlENDE@Gq)  as it uses existing iconography to explain that the crossing line ends. (I’m imagining smaller ENDE bars for such a scenario.) I don’t think we should use   (LSTR) type icons for the main line/path as this says an interruption of some kind, although I do think it could work for the crossing line using a q version of   passing underneath a bridge. Lost on  Belmont 3200N1000W  (talk) 15:09, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If we need to show functionality of the bridge, we could also make the lifting formation rectangle black. Then we could use the black formation for operating bridges and make it gray for non-operating bridges. Although, now that I think about it, that wouldn't indicate if a closed bridge was locked in the up or down position... Lost on  Belmont 3200N1000W  (talk) 22:25, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I've uploaded   (exLFTx) which I think would be appropriate for an out-of-use lift bridge in the raised position. I've included masking so it can be overlaid onto   (WASSERq) or a canal. Useddenim (talk) 23:51, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I’m liking these ideas — looks like this is going somewhere good after all this time. (Maybe move this discussion to Talk:BSicon/Icon geometry and SVG code neatness/Drawbridges only when the deed is done, to avoid jinxing it?…) -- Tuválkin 17:41, 25 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This looks great! The interruption in the line is perfect!
Normally I’m in favor of masks for elevated/bridge icons, but I’m wondering if we want the under layer to show through here to indicate that the water/line/road below passes through unobstructed. Anyone have thoughts on this? Lost on  Belmont 3200N1000W  (talk) 00:11, 27 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. -- Tuválkin 14:44, 27 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Noted; there is now   (exLFTx) and   (exMLFTx). Useddenim (talk) 13:42, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I like it! -- Tuválkin 05:04, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Worth noting that I uploaded   (lLFT) to offer flexibility for the line (e.g.  (lLFTtSTR violetSTR brownMSTRWASSERq) ). AlphaBeta135talk 23:02, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I've added an alternate swing bridge icon that matches the lifts:   (SWG) &   (SWGW). Useddenim (talk) 00:05, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Also   (eLFT) &   (xeLFTW) for bridges where the span is inoperable and fixed in place. Useddenim (talk) 00:07, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Pontoon / Floating bridge

[edit]

Hi - I'm looking for an icon for a pontoon bridge / floating bridge. I think I'll use swing bridge for now because it's close enough - unless anyone has a suggestion for a better usage? Timtjtim (talk) 17:47, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Timtjtim: Does   (hPTNae) work for you? Useddenim (talk) 21:59, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Useddenim: I took the liberty of adding   (hPTNa)   (hPTN)   (hPTNe) for if a long floating bridge is shown in a diagram. Hotdog with ketchup (talk) 03:04, 21 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I hate to be that guy, but we're also going to need a drawbridge that will integrate with the pontoon BSicons, as several floating bridges in the Seattle area have (or have had) draw spans in the middle. VanIsaac (en.wiki) 06:00, 22 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
✓ Done:   (hPTN+LFT). Useddenim (talk) 00:02, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

New half-width road icons

[edit]

Hello! I was looking for versions of the icons   (dSKRZ-Eo(Rr)) and   (dSKRZ-Eo(Ll)), but using the road style of   (RP4q). Thank you! OrdinaryScarlett (talk) 02:52, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I am essentially looking for half-width versions of   (SKRZ-G4o(Rr)) and   (SKRZ-G4o(Ll)). OrdinaryScarlett (talk) 19:38, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@OrdinaryScarlett: If you just want to decrease the gap between the two rail lines, you can do that already by writing d!~SKRZ-G4o(Rr)\SKRZ-G4o(Ll), which squeezes the two icons into the space of one and a half icons. Jc86035 (talk) 08:28, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I see, thank you! I'm doing this on en:Template:Edmonton LRT and the only trouble I'm having is squeezing it all onto the line with "NAIT/Blatchford Market" and "118 Avenue". OrdinaryScarlett (talk) 19:07, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I tried doing it in an edit just now and it didn't seem like there was any kind of problem with that. Jc86035 (talk) 19:18, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, thank you so much! OrdinaryScarlett (talk) 22:00, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Horizontal double track stations?

[edit]

Hi, I need a version of the icon   (uvBHF(R)g-BHF(L)f) rotated 90°. Thanks! Gamingcanary (talk) 05:11, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Would that be clockwise or anti-clockwise? Useddenim (talk) 15:17, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  (uvBHF(R)g-BHF(L)fq) ✓ done; also   (uvBHF(R)f-BHF(L)gq). Useddenim (talk) 15:51, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Tunnel curves for the green BSicon set

[edit]

Morning:) I need   (tSTR3h+1 green) (based on   (STR3h+1 green)) and preferably the rest 3 corner-curves too. Thanks. -Fessor (talk) 13:14, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Fessor: I tried fixing up your diagram. I am not experienced in BS-map so there may be some errors, but everything looks to be lined up with existing icons. I hope this helps. Hotdog with ketchup (talk) 14:28, 2 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've used another BSicon for that diagram, so it doesn't really matter since I'd need the aforementioned icon for yet another line. Well, I get that you tried your best but your changes have messed up Baku template so I'll revert those. --Fessor (talk) 15:25, 2 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Fessor: Fair enough, although on my screen, the newest edit looks to be in disarray, but that may be a problem with BS-map and why it was replaced with Routemap. I have more experience with Routemap, but I do not know if it works on Ukrainian Wikipedia. If it does, here is a link to the English version of the diagram, made with Routemap. Hotdog with ketchup (talk) 15:36, 2 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I guess we don't have/use that template:) thnx anyway --Fessor (talk) 15:40, 2 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Fessor: It's not really that difficult.
  1. Save the existing icon to your computer.
  2. Open it with a text editor (e.g. Windows Notepad on a PC or TextEdit on a Mac)
  3. Look for the text string stroke="#BE2D2C" (or stroke="#003399" if you're using a u icon)
  4. Replace BE2D2C with 2DBE2C (or whichever other hex color you want from {{BS-color}})
  5. Save the modified file with the appropriate colour suffix appended to the name
  6. Upload the new file
Done. Useddenim (talk) 19:59, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, that's exactly what I've been doing lately. But I cannot seem to find an existing t-icon of BE2D2C to alter the content. Maybe, I'm missing it? --Fessor (talk) 05:29, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Fessor:   (tSTR3h+1) Hotdog with ketchup (talk) 06:07, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yay! Thank you, Hotdog with ketchup --Fessor (talk) 06:10, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Diagonal icons

[edit]

Hi! I need diagonal icons for   (TUNNEL2),   (hBHFa),   (hBHFe), and   (DBHFae) going from corner 3 to corner 1 (top right corner to bottom left corner). Thank you! OrdinaryScarlett (talk) 07:33, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  (TUNNEL23+1) &   (TUNNEL22+4). Useddenim (talk) 16:18, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Awesome, thank you so much! OrdinaryScarlett (talk) 20:58, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  (hBHF3+1a) &   (hBHF3+1e). Useddenim (talk) 00:44, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for these! OrdinaryScarlett (talk) 02:20, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I had one more suggestion, I was curious if I could have   (KBHFxe) with the curve of   (BHF+1)? Thank you! OrdinaryScarlett (talk) 02:47, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I found   (KBHF3xa) and that can probably be inverted 180°, hope that helps. Hotdog with ketchup (talk) 03:01, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh my gosh, thank you so much! Just derived   (KBHF+1xe) from it! OrdinaryScarlett (talk) 04:06, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

YRD but diagonal

[edit]

(YRD) but diagonal? can it be done? would the three-track   (dYRD) superimposed on a full-width tile to save the track width from cliipping beyond the borders? maybe even just   (PSL) on the diagonals if that's simpler. please and thank you. -Mjdestroyerofworlds (talk) 01:16, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

There's already   (KYRD4) which could be used as a starting point. Useddenim (talk) 04:38, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I made   (YRD2+4) from Useddenim's terminal yard there. I'll work on the opposite corners soon. And now   (YRD3+1) is done. VanIsaac (en.wiki) 05:29, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It looks really good! (Says a guy who hates halfwidth lines, too!) -- Tuválkin 02:35, 7 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I was surprised at how good it looked too! Credit certainly goes to Useddenim for the original KYRD geometry in setting me up for pleasing and intelligible iconography. VanIsaac (en.wiki) 04:50, 7 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Kudos to everyone! thanks again. -Mjdestroyerofworlds (talk) 17:42, 7 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Diagonal RP4 masks

[edit]

Sorry to jump on the diagonal icon bandwagon, but I was wondering if a diagonal version of MRP4 ( ) could please be made. I have MSTR2+4 ( ) in use now, but it does not sufficiently mask the icons beneath it ( ). Thank you! Hotdog with ketchup (talk) 03:08, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Hotdog with ketchup:   (MRP42+4). Useddenim (talk) 04:45, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Diagonal and half icons

[edit]

Hi! I would like to inquire if it would be possible for the following three icons to be derived:

  •   (DBHF3+1ae)
  •   (NULgq~L)
  •   (NULgq~R)

Thank you! OrdinaryScarlett (talk) 10:06, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Just had another, was wondering if   (tSTRu) and   (tSKRZ-G4u) were possible too? Thank you so much! OrdinaryScarlett (talk) 07:50, 15 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@OrdinaryScarlett: I've made   (tSTRu), and tSKRZ-G4u is possible with  (RP4oqMRP4qtSTR) . I couldn't create the other icons as I am new to the text editor. Hope this helps! --Squishyawaylittle6 (talk) 00:08, 21 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@OrdinaryScarlett:   (NULgq~L) and   (NULgq~R) --Squishyawaylittle6 (talk) 00:42, 21 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You’ve been an amazing help. Thank you so much! OrdinaryScarlett (talk) 11:48, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Squishyawaylittle6: Hopefully this is alright to ask you for, but in the same vein as   (tSTRu), do you think you could also help me create   (tKRZu)? It should just be   (tSTRu) but with a solid horizontal line through the middle. Thank you! OrdinaryScarlett (talk) 00:47, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nevermind, just figured out how to make it myself! OrdinaryScarlett (talk) 04:14, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@OrdinaryScarlett: I found   (tSKRZ-G4), no "u" suffix is necessary. Hotdog with ketchup (talk) 03:41, 21 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah yeah, that too, but I was looking for an icon with the road on an elevated bridge crossing across the underground line. Thank you though! OrdinaryScarlett (talk) 11:52, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My mistake. Would   (tSKRZ-G4hl)   (tSKRZ-G4h)   (tSKRZ-G4hr) work then? Hotdog with ketchup (talk) 00:51, 23 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I was looking for an icon like that, but with the bridge segment beginning and ending within the same icon. It’d be what Squishy made with the overlays above, but as one singular icon. OrdinaryScarlett (talk) 07:20, 23 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The icon was uploaded:   (tSKRZ-G4u) --Squishyawaylittle6 (talk) 14:19, 23 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh my god, thank you so much! OrdinaryScarlett (talk) 23:01, 23 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Glad to help, you're welcome. -- Squishyawaylittle6 (talk) 12:05, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I request a tunnel version of   (dSTR3+1h). Thanks! -- Squishyawaylittle6 (talk) 23:12, 6 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Requesting outline for elevated Bahnhof station with elevated corner

[edit]

Hello, I was wondering if a cross between   (lhSTR+hc3) and   (lhBHF) could please be made, to accommodate a large station immediately preceding an above-grade level junction, for this   scenario. I would only need an "l"(L) variation, as I would be using one of three different colors for the station and a fourth color for the corner. I also do not expect a need for corners 1, 2, 4, or any combinations, just 3. I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you! Hotdog with ketchup (talk) 22:09, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I withdraw my request. Hotdog with ketchup (talk) 17:50, 28 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Hotdog with ketchup: ✓ Done:   (lhBHF+hc3), and sorry for the late response 😞 – Squishyawaylittle6 (talk) 17:05, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much! I withdrew the request as another way to complete the diagrams worked, but since it is available, I have now implemented it. Hotdog with ketchup (talk) 17:57, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You're certainly welcome! I just learned how to make it. – Squishyawaylittle6 (talk) 18:10, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yellow diagonal tunnel transition(s)

[edit]

I hope everyone's having a good day. I'm requesting   (extSTRr+1e) be recolored with the standard   (exSTR yellow) coloration (the out-of service shade in this case, but the in-service one will be useful at a [likely far-]future date). thanks in advance! -Mjdestroyerofworlds (talk) 08:50, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  (extSTRr+1e yellow) &   (tSTRr+1e yellow). OrdinaryScarlett (talk) 09:49, 15 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
thanks! you rock! -Mjdestroyerofworlds (talk) 16:39, 15 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Narrow-line stopblocks

[edit]

As   (ENDE@Fq) and similar have equivalent standalone   (lENDE@Fq)   (lENDE@Gq)   (lENDE@G) and   (lENDE@F) to overlay, can we get the equivalent stopblock for   (nSTRq) at the four edges? with the same line weight as   (nENDEeq)? thanks in advance -Mjdestroyerofworlds (talk) 02:27, 17 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Mjdestroyerofworlds: ✓ Done:   (nlENDE)  (nlENDE@F)  (nlENDE@G)  (nlENDEq)  (nlENDE@Fq)  (nlENDE@Gq) -- Squishyawaylittle6 (talk) 02:57, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Squishyawaylittle6: Thanks so much! these will be a big help! -Mjdestroyerofworlds (talk) 03:07, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
While you're at it, you might want to check out the length discrepancies between the normal-weight stopblocks. e.g.   (lENDE@F) is a different length than   (lENDE@G). take a looksee:  (lENDE@FlENDE@G)
(lENDE@F) is still based off an older version of   (ENDE) and has not been updated unlike   (lENDE@G). -- Squishyawaylittle6 (talk) 03:03, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Camping facilities

[edit]

Something a little artistic finally. There doesn't seem to be a symbol for camping or campsites. It would be maybe marginally useful in rail diagrams, but would be quite useful in trail and even river and some bus diagrams. Is there a universal symbol for camping other than an A-frame tent? -Mjdestroyerofworlds (talk) 19:11, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Mjdestroyerofworlds: There doesn't seem to be any universal camping symbol other than a tent, so I'll try my best to make a tent icon. Are you okay with that? — Squishyawaylittle6 (talk) 23:07, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
