The Poor People's Campaign was a long-term multi-racial demonstration for economic justice. Its highlight was the 1968 creation of Resurrection City, a shantytown of several thousand residents on the National Mall. The Campaign was disrupted substantially by the Assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr., weeks before Resurrection City was planned to go into effect.
