- Kernite was named for "Kern" county where it was discovered in 1926 — at the US Borax Mine, Boron, Kramer District, eastern Kern County, western Mojave Desert, Southern California, U.S.
- More recently it was discovered—now mined in: Argentina, Spain, and Turkey.
