Hello, and thank your for sharing your files with Commons. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. Please remember that all uploads require source, author and license information. Could you please resolve these problems, which are described on the page linked in above? Thank you. --Siebrand 20:08, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
- This particular file was a mistake, feel free to delete it. Thanks. --USHMM 20:11, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
Image deletion warning | Image:Buchenwald_Survivors_74607.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file. |

image:Buchenwald Slave Laborers Liberation.jpg is a much larger version of the same photograph --Pieter Kuiper 10:58, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
- Keep For all practical purposes, yes, but the larger DVIC version has a stamp of the Signal Corps in the lower left corner and the serial number in the bottom right corner has been (somewhat awkwardly) digitally removed (by the DVIC people). Lupo 12:03, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
- You are probably right. I can also see traces now. The number 203647-S looks original. Withdrawing the nomination. One should probably put a note pointing to the lower resolution version. /Pieter Kuiper 12:42, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
Kept. Request withdrawn. Lupo 08:32, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
Categorizing
[edit]Hi! It is of course very much appreciated that you are uploading material here, and it is excellent that you put them in a category. But it would be even better if you could put the images in more specific categories. I noticed that the category:The Holocaust was flooded by images about Buchenwald. Last night I moved a part of them to subcategories of category:Buchenwald concentration camp. So please do load up more, but do it in the right categories. /Pieter Kuiper 11:16, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
Pieter - Thank you for moving the photos to the appropriate location. As you can see the museum added over 200 Buchenwald images, and I would want them to be in the appropriate location. In the future, I will be more diligent about making sure our uploads go in the appropriate category.
Nazi Christianity
[edit]I've uploaded a collection of USHMM pictures about Christianity and Nazism. Can we keep them? --Nyo 22:59, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 06:20, 1 May 2009 (UTC)
