This page may contain some profanity. If you are PC Principal you probably shouldn't edit here. Try going here instead. | 🖕 |
Some YouTube channels with Creative Commons content that Commons isn't using much from:
- The Scottish Parliament from ScottishParl
- World Poker Tour from TheWPT (note: not every video is CC)
Why don't you take some screenshots, import whole videos with video2commons, etc? Don't forget to tag your uploads with {{Licensereview}}! If you need help, just ask me! (or the folks at the helpdesk or village pump)
check for PD
Sometimes I upload PD-images and I would like to have a category where PD-images get checked if they are really PD. (Sorry if I allready asked you, I might have forgotten the answer. That's something quite long in my head.)
Creating such a categroy would be easy, but there has to be a community who knows that to add pictures and to check it.

- @JoKalliauer: I think that's an excellent idea. Propose it at COM:VPP? Or discuss at COM:VPC and just create it. Either way, I don't think we have anything like that atm. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 08:48, 31 August 2019 (UTC)
File:Indicative (Saudi Aarbia Road Sign).png has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

- No copyright issue. Nominator argues the file has been superseded. This was a batch upload of converted files, this one was converted from File:Saudi Arabia - Road Sign - Indicative.svg. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 22:01, 4 September 2019 (UTC)
Proposals in your incubator
Are still planning on launching those still in your incubator? They both seem like good proposals, even if the Flickr one requires a technical change the one titled "Acceptance of files from external sources without a license review" seems quite reasonable. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 20:15, 7 September 2019 (UTC)
- @Donald Trung: So many things need my attention.. The Flickr one would be better if maxUploads could be restricted just for Flickr. I need to ask if that's possible. For the other one, see Commons:Village pump/Copyright#Acceptance of files from external sources without a license review. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 10:38, 11 September 2019 (UTC)

Thanks
Hey Alexis, I know we've butted heads on occasion, but I just wanted to let you know that I actually appreciate all the work you do on Commons. It seems like you're somehow involved in every proposal and deletion discussion that happens on here. Cheers. Kaldari (talk) 18:51, 20 September 2019 (UTC)
+1. We've disagreed on one or more occasions but Alexis is undoubtedly a productive contributor to Commons and I fancy their work here. Thanks for all your contributions to Commons. Regards. T CellsTalk 16:09, 21 September 2019 (UTC)
Commons governance
You said "Commons is quite open to adopting new things and protecting free speech but has issues with its governance". I am personally willing to try to improve the governance of Commons. I'm here because I value your opinions. I would appreciate it if you could elaborate on your comment. I may be able to help (now or in the future). I have some experience from fawiki (which is, in my opinion, a problematic project). One reason why I like Commons (and spend my time here) is that I see the situation here better than fawiki (my former homewiki). You may see the situation here equal to or worse than, say, nlwiki. It is good to talk about our experiences. Thank you, 4nn1l2 (talk) 17:39, 22 September 2019 (UTC)
- @4nn1l2: Thanks, I actually can use your help. Nlwiki is better (at least in the sense anyone can start a desysop), but also much smaller. So those rules may not actually work here. I am thinking about a proposal to improve this, but it only really exists inside my head right now. When I write some of it down, I'll be needing more input to form a workable proposal. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 17:45, 22 September 2019 (UTC)
- Here are some of my long term governance related talking points. You may want to hijack some of these.
- Super Mario effect
- Trusted roles are lifetime appointments
- Desysop needs a vote for a vote, though literally this type of double trial is not in any policy
- There is no recommended anonymous whistle-blowing process
- Volunteers in the OTRS commons-permissions queue are not subject to any Commons specific scrutiny or vote before being granted access
