Today we celebrate the naming ceremonies of our newest vessels, the “Singapore Express,” at the Port of Tuas, in Singapore and the “Iquique Express” at the New Times Shipyard, in China. 🎉 In Singapore, over 230 distinguished guests joined us for this momentous occasion, including our esteemed patron, Dr. Yeo May May, and Mr. Ong Kim Pong, Group CEO of PSA International. The ceremony was honored by the presence of the German Ambassador to Singapore and Senior Parliamentary Secretary Mr. Baey from the Ministry of Transport, further reinforcing our strong partnerships. A groundbreaking milestone! 🎉 On August 11, the “Shrimp Express”, our dedicated block reefer train, embarked on its maiden journey from Vizag to Nhava Sheva. 🇮🇳 This involved 43x 40' reefers traveling across the breadth of the Indian Peninsula from the coast of the Bay of Bengal to the coast of the Arabian Sea. This new service is a customized solution designed to meet the needs of our reefer customers. Happy Birthday, Panama Canal! 🎉 On the occasion of the canal’s anniversary, we would love to share three interesting facts about it with you: 💰 The Panama Canal has a significant impact on global trade and the economy. It generates substantial revenue for Panama through tolls paid by vessels passing through the canal. 🚢 In 2016, a major expansion project was completed, adding a new set of locks known as the “Panama Canal Expansion.” These larger locks allow for the passage of “New Panamax” vessels, which are much larger than the original Panamax vessels. 🚂 In addition to the canal itself, there's a parallel Panama Canal Railway running alongside the waterway. We are pleased to report that we closed the first half of the year 2024 with a Group EBITDA of USD 2 billion (EUR 1.8 billion). Group EBIT decreased to USD 0.9 billion (EUR 0.8 billion) and Group profit to USD 0.8 billion (EUR 0.7 billion). These results are well below last year's levels, given the significantly changed market conditions following the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, but above initial expectations due to increased demand and rising spot rates in the second quarter of 2024.
