Every facility has its own heart 💙 - our ORS residential centres proved this once again on this year's World Refugee Day 🌏   Colleagues in our centres came up with a number of ideas to make the day unforgettable for young and old alike. Out of the - sometimes very stressful - everyday life of a refugee centre and into the hustle and bustle, Olympic games were organised, circus and acrobatics shows were performed, handicrafts were made, face painting was done and music was played.   We are proud and grateful that our colleagues in the accommodation centres put so much heart and soul into helping our residents.   #ORS #Serco #WithRefugees

🌎 World Refugee Day 2024 🌍   No one leaves their home voluntarily. No one leaves family and friends behind willingly. No one flees without a reason. Yet millions of people are forced to leave their lives behind and flee. Whether because of war, climate change, political or religious persecution, or other reasons.   Every day, #ORS and its staff do their best to make people's arrival in a new country and their stay in refugee centres as comfortable as possible. We treat the people in our centres with respect and as equals. We ensure that people feel safe and well cared for, in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements. Our aim is to make the start of a new life as easy as possible - from support to integration.   20 June is a day that commemorates the strength and courage of people who have made the arduous journey of flight to build a new life far from home. 💙   #WithRefugees #Equality #worldrefugeesday #uno #ORS #Serco

⚽️ In the spring of 2022, a football club for refugee children was set up at the First Reception Centre in Bonn. The group was initiated by ORS volunteer coordinator Antje-Hellen Nekhili. The board of the F.C. Hertha Bonn 1918 e.V. football club took up the idea and has now developed a guide entitled "Football unites: Even without a common language." For this project, Hertha Bonn has now been awarded the 2024 Integration Prize by the Integration Council of the Federal City of Bonn. The football club in the ORS accommodation centre is aimed at children between the ages of 6 and 12. Thanks to the cooperation between the shelter and F.C. Hertha Bonn 1918 e.V., talented adult residents of the shelter can also take part in regular training sessions with the football club. 💙 Murtaza fled Afghanistan for Switzerland in 2018. This is his story.   Murtaza (33) is from a Shia region in Afghanistan and belongs to the Hazara ethnic group. Shias are a minority in Afghanistan. He fled to Switzerland in 2018. His journey took him from his home country through Iran, Turkey, Greece, Belgium and Germany to the Swiss canton of Fribourg. Murtaza studied medical engineering in Kabul. He worked in a hospital there before fleeing.   Murtaza's last stop on his long journey was the canton of Fribourg. Here, ORS is responsible for the entire mandate. ORS is also responsible for promoting integration through various language courses. Murtaza attended an intensive French course. He was taught French for 3 hours a day for 8 months. Because of Covid, Murtaza had to interrupt the course. During this time, he volunteered at the Fribourg Cantonal Hospital, for which he first had to pass a professional exam. This was followed by further training that enabled him to work in the vaccination centre. Murtaza then completed an additional training course, which enabled him to work in the operating theatre at Fribourg Cantonal Hospital.   The journey was not always easy, but his courage, curiosity and determination motivated Murtaza to continue. Speaking French was like a key for me. When I came to Switzerland, I didn't speak a word of French. I studied in Afghanistan. In Switzerland, I first had to learn the alphabet. Murtaza wants to encourage people who share his fate and motivate them not to lose sight of their goals.   Today, Murtaza has been working as a technical assistant in the operating theatre at Fribourg Cantonal Hospital (HFR) for three years. He speaks French. He has a flat, a wife and a child. And Murtaza has goals. He wants to continue his education, do another apprenticeship and, if possible, go to university.   We wish Murtaza every success on his journey. The Swiss Refugee Council (SFH) portrayed our employee Cihan Dilber. He came as an refugee to Switzerland. Now he is engaged as a social care worker at the Federal Asylum Centre in Basel. 🌍 Immigration Theme Spotlights - Learn more about the world's religions This year, #ORS has launched a new series of training courses: Theme Spotlights. In collaboration with the Haus der Religionen - Dialog der Kulturen in Bern, the world's religions are examined in detail, countries are presented and insights are offered into migration and refugee issues.   👨🎓 👩🎓 At the end of April, for example, a lecture was given on Islam. The 5 pillars of Islam were explained to the participants, the Koran was examined, the differences between Sunnism and Shiism were discussed and how Islam is practised in Switzerland.   👨🎓 👩🎓 Another interesting presentation was about Turkey. The participants learned about the history and politics of Turkey, its culture and traditions, the current living situation, conflicts and reasons for migration, and were given background information on the diaspora in Switzerland.   Does our programme match your interests? 🙏 More than care - the path to integration 🙏 👀 As well as making an important contribution to the care of refugees, ORS aims to help people integrate wherever possible. 🙌 At the first reception centre in Bonn, ORS Germany has had some success in integrating people into the labour market. Antje Hellen, Volunteer Coordinator at the First Reception Centre (EAE) in Bonn, and Omar, Social Care Team Leader, have launched an exciting concept. The aim is to make it easier for motivated and committed asylum seekers to enter the world of work. Residents who have already worked as community service workers (GNAs) in the accommodation during their stay at the First Reception Centre in Bonn are offered the opportunity to work as volunteers at the EAE. While waiting for their work permit, they can familiarise themselves with the work of the EAE. Until they receive their work permit and can settle in at ORS, they are also supported in finding German courses and in dealing with the authorities. 💪 Two former residents of the shelter now have their work permits and are joining the ORS team. Ayman and Elyse were transferred to a central accommodation centre after spending some time at the first reception centre in Bonn. During this time they continued to volunteer with the EAE. They have recently received their official work permits. Both are now in regular employment at EAE Bonn and earning money. 💰 Their active participation in working life is helping them to lead self-determined and independent lives. We are proud of everyone involved and wish Ayman and Elyse all the best for the future.   #ORS #Integration

🌏 Earth Day 2024 🌍 is celebrated today, 22 April Every year, a variety of campaigns are organised around the world to raise awareness of environmental and climate issues 🌱. ORS is committed to raising awareness of environmental and climate issues among employees and local residents throughout the year. 💚 In March, the city of Sigmaringen in southern Germany organised the "City Clean-up" campaign. This has been a tradition for many years. With the help of local residents, the aim is to clear the city of rubbish and litter. The residents of the Sigmaringen reception centre also took part in the clean-up. The photo won 3rd place in the competition. #greenearthday2024 #ORS #Serco
