Seit fast 50 Jahren leistet Ärzte ohne Grenzen / Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) dort medizinische Hilfe, wo Menschenleben bedroht sind. Vor allem bewaffnete Konflikte, aber auch Krankheitsausbrüche, Naturkatastrophen oder die Ausgrenzung vom Gesundheitswesen sind Gründe für unsere Einsätze. Für diese Situationen werden entsprechende medizinische und logistische Ressourcen benötigt. Ärzte ohne Grenzen handelt unabhängig von politischen, religiösen oder militärischen Einflüssen und richtet sich bei ihrer Arbeit einzig nach den medizinischen Bedürfnissen. Die Unabhängigkeit der Organisation wird dadurch sichergestellt, dass sie sich weltweit zu 97 Prozent aus Spenden von Privatpersonen finanziert. Die Teams von Ärzte ohne Grenzen setzen sich aus international oder lokal rekrutiertem Personal aus dem medizinischen, logistischen und administrativen Bereich zusammen. Alle Mitarbeitenden berufen sich auf die gleiche Charta. Bei ihrer Arbeit halten sie sich an die Grundsätze der humanitären Arbeit und der medizinischen Ethik. Neben der medizinischen Hilfe ist auch die Berichterstattung ein zentraler Teil unserer Tätigkeiten: Ärzte ohne Grenzen ergreift öffentlich das Wort, um auf nicht beachtete Krisen oder Machtmissbräuche aufmerksam zu machen, um auf Unzulänglichkeiten des Hilfesystems hinzuweisen oder darüber zu informieren, wenn die Hilfsleistungen für politische Interessen missbraucht werden. Die Schweizer Sektion von Ärzte ohne Grenzen wurde 1981 von einer Handvoll Freiwilligen gegründet. Heute zählt die Ärzte ohne Grenzen Schweiz über 300 Mitarbeitende, die von unserer Einsatzzentrale Genf und dem Büro in Zürich aus die Projekte vor Ort unterstützen. 1999 erhielt Ärzte ohne Grenzen den Friedensnobelpreis.

📣 “We didn’t understand, we had fled the war and bombs were still falling here.” Displaced Lives, Episode 1: Esther, 41, has been living for a year and a half in the Elohim camp in #Goma, #DRC, with her mother-in-law, her daughters, and their children. Together, they fled the fighting between the M23 armed group and the Congolese army in North Kivu.

#Sudan On 27 July, Saudi hospital 🏥 in El Fasher was shelled, causing 52 injuries and 11 deaths. This is the 10th #hospital attack in 80 days. Saudi hospital, the main facility for women 🧕, children 🧑, and war-wounded 🤕, has treated over 2,170 injured since May 10. Despite damage, it remains operational. Our #MSF teams and the #MinistryofHealth continue to provide critical care amid ongoing violence, highlighting the need to protect #healthcare facilities and workers.

#Armenia In honor of #WorldHepatitisDay, we’re sharing highlights from the marathon 🏃♂️ organized by our #MSF teams in #Yerevan on April 28! This event aimed to raise awareness and fight the stigma around #HepatitisC. Since July 2023, our project in Yerevan has been offering free testing and treatment, focusing on supporting vulnerable groups.

The war that has been ravaging #Sudan for over a year, opposing the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), has led to horrifying levels of violence. #MSF teams, working in eight of the country’s 15 states and supporting more than 30 #health facilities, are witnesses to and sometimes victims of this #violence. Dr Ali Almohammed, an emergency medical coordinator at #MSF, has recently returned from South #Darfur, Sudan. In this video, he discusses the conflict in #Sudan and its devastating effects on civilians. He describes the widespread shelling, displacement, limited access to #medical care, and the pervasive sense of insecurity people experience even within their homes.

#Gaza - Yesterday morning, 22 July, after more attacks in Khan Younis, Nasser hospital in southern Gaza was once again overwhelmed with a mass casualty incident. According to the Ministry of Health, more than a hundred injured came to the hospital.

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) headquarters in #Geneva recently hosted a diverse group of global #health and #humanitarian action students from the Duke Global Policy Program, a two-decade-old initiative based in Geneva. Some 40 students from the United States, China, Japan, Europe and various other regions, accompanied by professors from Duke University's Sanford School of Public Policy, had insightful exchanges with our #MSF staff about our ongoing operations in #Sudan and eastern #Chad - for Sudanese #refugees. They also explored MSF's global medical strategy for the year.
